This has been the big ongoing debate between Baptists and Pentacostals. The question is:

Once you are saved, are you always saved and no matter what you do for the rest of your life, you can never loose it and you will go to heaven because of that one time you accepted Jesus as your Saviour??

What are your thoughts on this?

And "if they turn away then they never really accepted the Lord to begin with" doesn't hold water to me because you can't know that for sure.

The Bible shows that people can lose their salvation. Take a look at these scriptures.

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white rainment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,... Revelation 3:5

...He that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22

And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. Exodus 32:33

When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. Ezekiel 34:18-19

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life,... Revelation 22:19

Now here is another question & in a way you want us to answer it to suit yourself, This once saved always saved, is NOT the true Doctrine that Baptists tries to portray, Baptists people think you can do anything you want to since you made a confession, That is the wrong way to look at Predestination. Friend I think now is the best time for you to get something that holds water, There is 3 steps to salvation, one is repent, & the next is to be Baptized In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, & 3 is the baptism of the Holy ghost, Now Baptists believes they recieve the Holy Ghost when YOU Believe, there is no scripture for that, Apostle Paul ask some Have ye received the HOLY GHost (since) ye believe & not (when) ye believe, So this once in grace always in grace is a true factor But not according to the Baptists ideals, Yes I have Baptists friend that say they confess years ago & I can do anything I want since I made a confession & once in grace always in grace, Little do those baptists know, They did NOT take all 3 steps to salvation, they only took 2 steps. Now Once a person has a true experince in receiving the Seal of God which is the Batism of the holy ghost, then yes they are seal until when, until they backslide, NO, untill the day of redemption. So can I say they did not really accepted christ, No But I can say they never went on to be seal into the Kingdom of God By the Holy Ghost, so once you are sealed there is your predestination Paul spoke of.That Holy Ghost is eternal life. & you don't have eternal life unless that Holy Ghost seal is upon you. Jesus told Peter after they have followed Jesus for a long time, Jesus told Peter, AFTER YOU ARE COVERTED PETER, STRENGHTEN THOU BROTHER, Oh, OH,why did Jesus said that to Peter after yrs. of following Jesus, Why, Because the Holy Ghost was not yet given. Then on the day of Pentacost that is when Peter was born again & converted, before that they look for the promise of the Holy Ghost. Now friend think on this. anyone that has the true seal is saved until the day of his redemption, because he has fufilled all 3 steps, & they will never want to go back on God. Now to the Baptists that only comes through baptism & stops there, they have not got eternal life, the eternal life is when you have been sealed by the HOLY GHOST experince.

Cool almost as good as being a Catholic. As a Catholic you can do what ever you want as long as you confess your sins to a priest and receive absolution before you die. But this is even better. If I profess that I am saved then I can do what ever I want with out worrying about finding a priest before I die. Cool I might try that. I accept Jesus as my personal savior. Good set for life now.

That is a good theological question. Here is how I have come to understand that question.

I do not think that you can lose your salvation, but I do think that you can willfully give it up. What do I mean by that?

First, God's grace is sufficient for all our needs. If you are a Christian, you do not need to live in fear that you may sin and not repent of that sin before you die. In other words, you don't have to live in constant fear that your salvation is at risk.

However, I do think that if you choose to reject Christ (even after becoming a Christian), that you can do that as well. I get this from Matthew 24:45-51

45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. 47 Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ [g] 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, 51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In verse 48, the evil servant makes mention that his master delays his coming. Refering to him as his master indicates that he knows him as master. But, the evil servant says that his master delays his coming, and begins to live his life as if the master would never return.

So, the moral of this story is, if you are going to be a Christ Follower, live life as if your master will return today. Then God's grace will be sufficient for you when He returns.

God knows the future of each and every person. Therefore, He knows who will be saved and who will be lost. However, that does not infringe upon our free choice. We have the opportunity both to choose God, or to reject Him, AT ANY TIME. Don't you think it would be a little unfair of God to say we had a free choice, and then to take it back later once we had made our decision for Him? It is always possible to change our course of action, and to make choices which will affect our eternal destiny.

Therefore, BOTH of the following statements would be incorrect:
"Once saved, always saved."
"Once lost, always lost."
EXCEPT, after people's probation has closed and they are "sealed" or after they die.

As long as we have life and and as long as our probationary time is extended to us, we have a choice. It behooves Christians, therefore, to renew their commitment to Christ daily, lest they should go astray.

I just posted on this on a different question, but understanding that the Bible does talk about apostasy, that is, a turning away from the truth.........

For instance, Christ himself made a comment about his adversary, Satan The Devil (means resister and opposer).

Notice: 42 Jesus said to them:

“If God were YOUR Father, YOU would love me, for from God I came forth and am here. Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth. 43 Why is it YOU do not know what I am speaking? Because YOU cannot listen to my word. 44 YOU are from YOUR father the Devil, and YOU wish to do the desires of YOUR father. That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of [the lie].
- John 8:42-44

This, along with other Scriptures that plainly show that at one time Satan was a worshipper of the True God..... WAS.
He actually was a high ranking angel, but did not "stand fast in the truth" because he wanted what was not his....God's Worship.
So, he left, but has been in opposition to God and his Son ever since.

The Apostles talked about ones that would raise up from among the congregation and become apostates as well....leaving the true faith and twising the Scriptures to draw the disciples away to themselves

"However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among YOU. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. 2 Furthermore, many will follow their acts of loose conduct, and on account of these the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively. 3 Also, with covetousness they will exploit YOU with counterfeit words. But as for them, the judgment from of old is not moving slowly, and the destruction of them is not slumbering. -2 Peter 2:1-3

"I know that after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among YOU and will not treat the flock with tenderness, 30 and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves."
-Acts 20:29-30

And finally the Scripture that shows that people can fall:

" YOU, therefore, beloved ones, having this advance knowledge, be on YOUR guard that YOU may not be led away with them by the error of the law-defying people and fall from YOUR own steadfastness. 18 No, but go on growing in the undeserved kindness and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him [be] the glory both now and to the day of eternity." 2 Peter 3:17-08

This is why Paul said to work out your salvation in fear and trembling. He wasn't talking about 'works', but of study, and of bearing fruit. The surest way I know of to KNOW you are a Christian is if you pass the tests laid out in 1John.

Your actions will still be judged

The answer is from the bible: 2 Peter 2
Before you read, do not rely on people's opinion & try to arbitrate who is best & who is not. You have your bible, you read it & you get the truth out of it because it is the book of life. Try to have your own opinon based on your own reading guided by the holy spirit of God

1But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,[a] putting them into gloomy dungeons[b] to be held for judgment; 5if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men 8(for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— 9if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.[c] 10This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature[d] and despise authority.

Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; 11yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. 12But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.

13They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.[e] 14With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! 15They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness. 16But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—a beast without speech—who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

17These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 20If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit,"[f]and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."

1 John 2: 18Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.[d] 21I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. 23No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
