Mental health is a very broad term so there is no simple answer. We still know very little about how the central nervous system functions. The key to mental health is a bit like asking what you should eat: common sense provides the answer. Eat well, live well, and rest well are the keys to health. Stress is always a problem. Stress is when you feel 'stuck'. You must always be able to see options. Get your feelings out in the open. Rest deprivation is endemic in the US so you need rest (not sleep).

And adult needs food, sleep, companionship, exercise, sex, an achievable focus, and comfortable surroundings, sunshine and fresh air helps. Our sense of well-being is directly related to our expectations; if we expect too much we will inevitably be frustrated and disappointed. I keep my sights fairly low - but aim to do at least one useful thing every day and that way I am always a success to myself (who cares what anyone else thinks)

Take control of your life.

1. Good nutrition and good sleep..........low-fat foods, forget white sugar, white bread, white flour....and choose non-fat milk and low-fat protein, add more fruit and vegetables,

2. Write down "what's bugging me", who's bugging me, and what I hate....then tear it up and throw it away.

3. Write down what you like about the people you admire, the qualities, what you want to accomplish, and where you want to travel.

4. Smile everytime you pass a mirror.....as you take back control of your life....you will enjoy everything better.

5. Gratitude - Thank YOU GOD for everything....and then we start to appreciate the big and little pieces of life.
