Last night I was in a pretty bad car accident. I drive a 2003 Ford Taurus. The airbag did not go off but the airbag light was on.

Is Ford liable in anyway? Has anyone else had the same experience?

Initially, I was hit in the passanger front end or corner and it sent me into a spin. As I spun around and faced him again, he hit me again head on. We think he may have given it gas as a hit and run because he had no insurance and no driver's license. He was from out of the country.

...and he was going about approx. 40-45 miles per hour I would guess.

The fireman (first response) and crew said they should have gone off.

where were you hit. the air bags will only go off if you were hit in the front, head on or off at an angle. there are no sensors in the rear bumpers. if you have side air bags, they will only go off if you're hit in the side.
i highly dought they were faulty. if there was something wrong with the system, the air bag light would have been on or flashing.
it sounds like you weren't hit in the correct spot to set them off.
also the air bags usually don't go off unless you're moving a minimal speed

If the crash was not bad and your were wearing your seat belts, the bag won't come out. Now that the air bag light is on you will have to replace the seat belts, because it is part of the air bag system. If you would have driven without the seat belts hooked the bag would have came out.

where was you hit, the air bag sensors are in the front and back behind the bumpers. nhtsa.com and see if there has been a recall on the airbag system for your vehicle,

Talk to your Taurus dealer. You MAY HAVE BEEN ABOUT TO hit hard enough to almost deploy them and the light came on. Have a chat, ok.?
