In the wild African Grey parrots may eat earth to gain access to some minerals missing from their diet but they do not eat gravel to grind up their food in the crop, as they are pricipally fruit eaters their food is soft enough that the crop can masticate it without the help of grit or gravel. The birds that eat grit or gravel are principally grain eaters like poultry so they need the gavel to grind up hard grain in the crop.

Besides a cuttlebone- NO GRIT FOR GREY'S OR PARAKEETS! It is not necessary for his diet. People may think that grit is needed to grind and process seed, but it can be extremely dangerous. The bird could eat too much gravel and become impacted. Parrots, Parakeets, Finches, and Canaries all remove the shell of seeds before they eat the seed.
Avian pets that do need grit are Doves and Chickens, because they eat eat their seeds whole(shell and all). Please do feed your Grey or parakeet grit.

on condition that they at the instant are not activity birds, they don't likely get used as nutrition. I definitely have appeared everywhere in the internet to aim and discover an answer for you and that i won't be in a position to discover any valid documentation of folk utilising parrots as nutrition. Cockateils, parakeets, lovebirds and canaries are plenty too small to consume. they have not got adequate meat on them to even evaluate. the different birds you stated are plenty greater beneficial and have a minimum of as plenty meat as a small activity hen yet as I suggested, i won't be in a position to discover any archives on people definitely utilising them as nutrition. Sorry i won't be in a position to be greater help. I shop 4 smaller parrot species and as much as I comedian tale that i'll lead them to into nuggets in the event that they don't behave, in all honesty, i don't think of they're the spectacular variety of birds to be prey animals for people. desire that enables.

I breed african grey parrots. They don't need grit. (Larger parrots don't). They do tend to be calcium deficient though so be sure to include a good calcium source in their diet (include vitamin D3, magnesium and phosphorus also for proper calcium absorption). :)

all birds need grit, it's how they "chew" food. they swallow it whole and it passes through the craw where the grit is and gets ground up before passing through. Even chickens need to eat tiny rocks. Ever heard the old saying "scarcer than hen's teeth" ? it's because birds don't have teeth.
