I recently seen a story on television's "Good Morning America" about people donating their kidney's to others in need. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there are any complications to the donators after losing one of their organs. I just cannot seem to understand how someone is able to have an organ removed and continue to live. Why would something be there if it was not meant to be used by your own body?

Because you have 2 kidneys, a human can function fine with just 1 HEALTHY kidney, the doctors do all sorts all tests to make sure that the kidney is healthy before you donate.

The thing that you watched is actually correct, a person can donate a kidney to others and even a part of a person's liver can be donated
to another person. The kidney is not actually useless it's just that when the person has only one kidney left, the kidney may adapt so that it will compensate for the work load of the other kidney. A kidney transplant may result in (although it will be rare) the kidney failure of the person who donated one of his kidneys. Although this is a very rare occurrence because before a person may donate, his over all health is tested or examined in order to prevent this possible complication.

People have 2 kidneys, and it is possible to donate one and still function normally with only one. That one kidney may fail u later in life, then u would need a transplant, but no one can predict that.
