Why oh why does it take so long on a very uncomplicated DIC claim from the VA? It's been 13 months and I feel like I'm getting the run-aorund. I am being told it's still "pending"...what should I do? Or, what CAN I do?

I do have a DAV representative that is supposedly helping me. I have to contact him every few months to find out why so long and he keeps telling me there isn't enough staff to do the job and there is a terrible backlog. In the meantime, my daughter and I get NO benefits. Not even partial until it's determined what, if anything we will get. The DAV worker keeps assuring me that it's not going to be a problem getting the DIC rather than just a pension benefit. But NOTHING in the meanwhile! That isn't fair!

Contact your State VA office and ask them for assistance. They can help you get your claim in and through all of the Fed VA run-arounds.

When I retired last year I was informed by a State VA Rep that the Fed VA wasn't my friend as they were the ones who were going to pay on any claim. The State VA however didn't pay off but they knew the same info as the Feds.

VA claims typically take 18-24 months to be processed. The good news is that if it is approved - you get back pay to the date you filed the claim.
