It could be. He is rather old for a dog and it is very possible he has arthritis. Generally when dogs get to a certain (old) age, they begin to lose bodily functions, sight, hearing, etc . . . just like some people. Take him to the vet as soon as you can so they can determine if there is more going on than just old age. In the event that he only has a little time left with you on this earth, you'll want to make it as comfortable for him as possible. In the mean time, give him some extra love and attention.

It sounds like it is getting close to his time. 15 years old is really up there for a larger dog. Shaking could be pain, but it could also be muscle weakness, especially in conjunction with lack of bowel control. He's an old guy, and most of this is likely due to his age. Take him in and have him checked out, but mentally prepare yourself that it might be his time to go. Think about how he feels, physically and mentally, rather than how you feel about letting him go. Quality of life is extremely important here.

I am not a vet...I have a 13 yo Rott and she is loosing a wee bit of control. If they appear to be shaking during a BM I would head straight away to the vet.

Sorry to hear this. This is a sign that organs are shutting down in the old boy, and this is painful thus the shaking.
I just went through the same thing with one of my own last week, so I understand completely your reluctance to do what you know in your heart needs to be done.
God speed my friend

truefully fsounds like your dog is getting up there and it only gets worst with time. i just lost my boxer 11-07-2006. i thought i was going to have to put her down. i had an appointment scheduled and every thing then we took her out side at 1:30 that day and she pasted out there in my arms. it was very sad but she knew that i didnt want to put her to sleep..... so she did what had to be done and shut her eyes for the last time.
RIP Maxine Smiley Manist 11-07-2006 ( middle name was smiley because she always smiled and always put a smile on my face) sadly miss by your momma. i'll never stop loving you baby girl. see you when its my time
