I think it's just Mr. Rangel trying to call attention to the US presence in Iraq, and using the draft issue as his publicity-getter. He's done this before.
I don't believe we need a draft right now, and don't believe most US military professionals would want to deal with ranks full of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who didn't want to be there. Military life is hard enough if you DO want to be in the military...no sense dragging folks who don't want to be in, in. The draft should be reserved for times when the nation's survival is at stake, and militarily at least, this isn't one of those times.

H.R. 393 is at present in the only hundred and 10th/111th Congress, proposed via Rep. Charles Rangel (D-enormous apple). This new draft might draft anyone between the a while of 18 and 40 two, male or woman, for militia service. and there is not any college EXEMPTION. they are going to draft you once you're in college! the sole exemptions are past service of a minimum of 6 months (I have been given my Honorable Discharge in 2003 after 4y2m of time in the army) and enrollment is a militia officer academy (West factor, Annapollis, etc., etc.).

Wow excellent question my friend but a tough one! I believe it will not get to this its not World War 3..... knock on wood. Bush is under alot scrutiny but hey we have had this discussion before. Of late there are talks they are just that if the media keeps fueling the issue what will happen next I do not want my daughter as I have no sons be forced. Stop the subliminal messaging folks once it gets in peoples heads its of what will come to pass ( it can go both ways ;) )
Pray for the decision makers as its a hard one to make, deciding basically who they will choose to live or die trying to fight for what our leaders deem right
Pray for our leaders that they make the choice thats right.
I do not oppose the war because we need resolve we just need a better systematic way to end the war and defragment all the terrorism without causing more families detriment.
Have we a proud country not lost enough too many to prior drafting not to mention its Unconstitutional against our civil rights so we may fight for what we believe in the amount of soldiers drafted over the decades how many did we lose as well its madness not to mention 911 and the newest war on Iraq.
If there was substantial evidence to support a draft alot of minorities that would be promised citizenship how much you bet they would enlist and go go accordingly maybe this is something to think of rather than a draft enlist it on the exam and then you will have people in our Country not complaining about Mr Sanchez, Mr kowalski, or Mr. Choi working on a false identity for a better place to live now thats food for thought!
Strip us of our own free will we are human very opinionated and we will fight as a mother, daughter, sister, neice I would fight for what I believe.
Below is a link you should find very interesting in which several individuals protested we all know what wil lhappen again if we impose another draft
Here is one:
1001 Ways to Beat the Draft
Tuli Kupferberg and Robert Bashlow TULI KUPFERBERG, LEAD singer for the rock group The Fugs offers humorous tips on ways to avoid the draft. "Ask what's in it for you," "Marry your sister," "Cut off your left leg," are a few of the suggestions offered within.

It could happen. I think it is naive to think that it can't. Many countries require some form of Service to Country of its citizenry. I personnally am not in favor of it, but it is possible.
Yes, females should be included if it does.
Run for the border? I hope they do. I also hope that when that happens that those running for the border are stripped of their citizenship and their social security number is deactivated.
PS.. Just to make it clear, I am NOT in favor of reinstituting the draft. If it comes to be then you have my opinion on what should come along with it.

I don't think the draft will be re instated. For one the Pentagon and most military officials are against it. They would rather continue to have an all volunteer force, there are less problems with discipline. It's better to carry out the mission if people are there by choice rather than by force. Unless something drastically changes it won't be reinstated.

Draft isn't going to happen. If it did it wouldn't include females it would be almost impossible to do so. Seeing as females dont' register for the selective service. If it were to happen then I'm sure there would be a mass influx into canada. (But I guess that would make room for the immigrants who were willing to fight, lol)
Sure our military is over extended but we still have enough to avoid the draft. Worse case scenario, we'd have to bring troops home from "mercy" missions, and enact the entire guard.

I doubt it will be reinstated. The president has 2 more years in office and I doubt he will want that kind of heat on him from the American public. But, if it does happen I welcome it. My grandfather was in WWII through D-Day and the all through Normandy. My father was in the Marines. So, if it was reinstated I wouldn't be to worried about it. If you don't want to go just make sure your enrolled in college because they won't draft college students. Rest easy because if they make me go I am going to kill every single habib over there and put an end to all of this BS.

Rangel is just trying to make a name for himself. He feels that if there is a draft, the support for the Iraq war will disappear. Rangel apparently has no use for notions of civil liberties as involuntary servitude is expressly prohibited by nothing less than the constitution. Pelosi and others will not allow this to even come up for a vote, so fortunately a draft is extremely unlikely.

We should have one, but not for the military. If they do not serve in the military, have them serve in the Americorps. Maybe we could use them to build the wall on the southern border.
I would love to see a few hundred yuppie silver spoon jerks out there in the heat moving wheel barrows of bricks and such

That the draft should be debated at all in the councils of a free government is cause of dismay. The question is nothing less than whether the most essential rights of personal liberty shall be surrendered and despotism embraced in its worst form. – Daniel Webster
