Yes dear your baby is growing up. Our son is 11. When he was 8 & in the second grade a girl in his class started her period. Be glad we weren't her mom. Sounds like you may need to back off of the spanking a little though. Understand that we spank as well so this isn't a lecture on the evils of paddling our kids.
It's just that he is at an age when reasoning with him will get more results. Puberty sucks, and anyone that remembers it will agree. Try to remember how you felt when this was going on in your world. Everything has been turned upside down for him. Girls used to be gross, now he sees them differently. The boys that used to be his friends, now hang out with someone else. You thought going through puberty was tough as a girl? We didn't have to constantly prove our masculinity. It's tough for him right now, cut him some slack & pick your battles wisely. No you should not let him get away with disrespecting you, but forgetfulness & feeling like he's alone in this is something that you can deal with. get him a book or hook him up with a responsible adult male that he can share this stuff with.
Good luck

You already have your answer. Puberty has definitely begun to creep into your household. It's not unusual for some children to develop faster than others. It sounds like you are trying to control him with discipline, which is the best thing you can do. Just remember to talk to him. If he claims you don't understand something, give him one chance to explain whatever it is he's trying to get across. And as mushy as it would sound to a 9 year old boy, keep telling him that you love him. You'll get through this and if you continue with a plan of discipline, he'll be better off for it.

Puberty is beginning earlier these days b/c of the diet of children. All you can do is try to be patient with the psychological and physical changes he is going through, communicate with him about the changes of his body and emotions, what it means (9-10 is a good age to discuss sex) and maybe have his father or an older male role model advise him on the proper behavior of a young man.

Most importantly make sure he knows that you love and support him. You don't want your relationship to suffer because of this.

The average age for puberty to begin in males is 11.5 years old but as young as 9 is still normal.

My son is 8 and I have noticed that he is getting more independent lately, wanting to do his own thing. He has strong opinions and so I have been told by other mothers that this is normal. I respect his opinions but correct him when he's wrong. I never stop telling him I love him.

they say that children are developing younger than ever, it has to do with quality of food and med care? probably has to do with why some countries are seeing bigger bodied people like Japan and China.girls are developing at 9-10 why not a boy?
