I've got such wonderful memories of some people and they're no longer around. Do you think we'll only find out later where they all ended up: which group will you be joining?

It was knowing that my grandad had gone to heaven having trusted in God to save him from what he deserved just before he died that made me realised that I was heading for hell and needed to know God's forgiveness and salvation

As much as I'd like to believe I'll see these people again, I am pretty sure that ash to ash and dust to dust is the truth. I prefer reality to myths. I spend time with my loved ones here on Earth, through my memories. Heaven, as nice as it may sound, and hell, really are imaginary.

The first line in your wikipedia link states that heaven is a "concept", not that it is a truth.

You have asked a very good question! I can also sense you already know the correct answer:-) Paul put it well didn`t he when he stated "To be abscent from the body is to be present with the Lord." He spoke of running the race and seeing it to it`s end and to be taken to be with the Lord.
I noticed afew mentions regarding the rapture and the tribulation as well, interesting the differing views of what takes place after this life. The soul is the seat of the emotions, it is who we are , the charater of who we are ect, the spirit is that eternal part of us that relates to God/ the Holy Spirit. Paul often spoke of praying in the spirit. The flesh it only temporary as you know but yes it too will be ressurected on that day when Jesus steps out and calls His children in the Rapture of the church. The saints who have gone ahead of those who are still living will first experience the bodily resurrection where their physical bodies will be glorified and reunite with their spirit. Then those living will be changed in an instant and be taken to meet the Lord in the air. This begins seven years called the wedding feast and rewards etc of Christ with the church/believers. The tribulation will also last seven years on earth, after which the saints in Heaven will return to earth with Christ.
But in answer to wher do they go. well my 39 yoa brother Bill in Arlington TX moved home to Glory May 29th,2006. Suddenly diagnosed with Liver Cancer. He was a Minister as I am, I know he is with the Lord. My 18 yoa son Jim Jr, was taken on March 02,2002 in a single car accident, I believe he too is with the Lord. I look forward to being reunited with both of them and others who have gone before me. Take care and God Bless you as you travel the road less traveled.
Jim

Hi Andy,
I guess one of the advantages I have (this is just my stuff, ok?) of believing in eternal life in (the Christian understanding of) heaven is that I will get to see my Nana and my Mum again.

And if i am wrong? I will of lived a life worth living anyhow.
Win-win!

This is not a problem.
You can go through life a total non-believer and still get into heaven due to the loophole that God forgives all sinners who repent. Upon seeing the pearly gates all you have to do is say oops, I was wrong ,sorry, and your in.

Hopefully all those that i loved have gone to some place where they have no worry's and no pain.

My father-in-law was a mean man, he used to drink and beat his wife often cracking her ribs. When he died she used to say that he will always be around as the booze has pickled his whole body. I often wonder where he has ended up.

What happens when a person dies?

The spirits of both the righteous and the wicked return to God. Their bodies return to dust.
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.

Answer: The body turns to dust again, and the spirit goes back to God, who gave it. The spirit of every person who dies--whether righteous or wicked--returns to God at death.

What is the "spirit" that returns to God at death?

There is nothing mysterious about the spirit that returns to God at death. It is the breath of life.
"The body without the spirit ["breath," see margin] is dead." James 2:26. "The spirit of God ["the breath which God gave him," see margin] is in my nostrils." Job 27:3.

Answer: The spirit that returns to God at death is the breath of life. Nowhere in all of God's book does the "spirit" have any life, wisdom, or feeling after a person dies. It is the "breath of life" and nothing more.

Do souls die?

"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20. "Every living soul died in the sea." Revelation 16:3.

Answer: According to God's Word, souls do die! We are souls, and souls die. Man is mortal (Job 4:17). Only God is immortal (1 Timothy 6:15, 16). The concept of an undying, immortal soul goes against the Bible, which teaches that souls are subject to death.

"Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:12. "The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, ... and the dead in Christ shall rise ... and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17. "We shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, ... and the dead shall be raised incorruptible. ... For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." 1 Corinthians 15:51-53.

Answer: They will be rewarded. They will be raised, given immortal bodies, and caught up to meet the Lord in the air. There would be no purpose in a resurrection if people were taken to heaven at death.

I think most people get to heaven, remember we qualify on the grace of our Lord, not our own worthiness. I would think you'd have to be pretty evil to merit hell. The diciples dispaired when Jesus talked of how hard it would be for a rich man to get into Heaven, but he told them with God all things are possible.

If you have family and friends that were saved, I'm sure they are in heaven. If you are saved then you will see them there. The ones that go to hell, I don't think you'll have any memory of them because in heaven it's perfect. That's just my thoughts.

If only we had the answer to that there would be no fear of death, or, all scared of it. My belief is they never really leave you, there around you all the time, death can't take that away. and yes one day we will meet them all again, death has already been conqured,The body is just a vessel its flesh and bone that returns to the earth, but our soul who we truly are NEVER dies. lol
