Ask for a postponement
barring that, it really depends on what kind of test
if its comprehensive like the ACT or the Barr exam, review the fundamentals day and night
If its the final exam for a class, review the course syllabus, notes, text book
Do all the example problems in the textbook
review all the homework problems assigned
See if there is a previous copy of the exam available, study that
Hire a tutor if possible
Get 8hours of sleep before the test
don't take any speed or something to keep you up, sleep is very important to learning
In the end, if you have not study you cannot expect to do well on a test, hope its not an exam for something medical!

don tlisten to the people, you are not a waster. this is the only way i can ever study or do a project, right at the end, when the heat is on, is is the best motivation for some people and gets the best out of them (same as the people who enjoy stressful jobs)
my advice is- you generally know what the exam is on, so take a gamble on certain questions coming up, therefore you only have to read a couple of books or even chapters within the couple of days and know what answers you are going to put before you enter the exam, if the wrong questions come up, you can still regurgitate everything you know, and try and answer the question at the end in a conclusion paragraph (making it look as if you have misread the question slighty, but still know loads about the subject, and you have tried to pull it together nat the end- they will still give you marks for this)
This does actually work, i never revise as there is no urgency to it, unless its right before the exam- i have an honors, masters and currently doing a post graduate diploma.
good luck

Well, it depends on the subject!

He can try to browse some past exam papers and guess which chapters might come up and choose to concentrate just in these chapters. He might still have enough time to do that..

If not my advice would be to pretend that he is sick or something but to get a paper from a doctor as well to prove it.

ya know.... its not really that hard to study. I mean if you just got a few days you still have plenty of time. And that dosent mean you have to stay up all night trying to "cram". If you dedicate some of your spare time to studying instead of doin other things you can still pass. And studying in your spare time dosen't mean you have to give it all up for studying, it just means you should dedicate an hour or so to studying and then you will have plenty of time to have fun.

I would have stopped wasting my time and started studying anyway because anything would help.
