Try long term backpacker insurance as they normally allow you to work. I used Worldwide Insure http://www.worldwideinsure.com/ when I went backpacking and have remained a customer since.

Shop around on the internet, between Blue Cross, Prudential and Allstate. I assume you mean Health insurance. You can look also for the Co-operative Insurance which is Canadian.

If you're getting your WHV through BUNAC (as you will have to do if you're in the UK/Ireland) they force you to take their insurance, unless you can prove that you have already sourced your own insurance with a similar level of cover.
