You're right, the bible does say, "Do not commit adultery" (one of the Ten Commandments).
However, Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 "But I tell you that anyone who even looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
This eliminates second and third base as well.

Don't put words into the Bible. You are trying to have the Bible tell you what you want to hear. That is not going to happen. If you recall the Bible states that just by wanting someone you have already committed adultery- So what is the not to understand? You can hit a home run, you can run all the bases and you will still be doing wrong.

Ok, yeah the Bible says no sex before marriage. But this is also what Jesus said in the Bible: (Matt 5:27-28): "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully had already commited adultery with her in his heart."
Jesus condemns adultery, but also even thinking of having sex before marriage. If he condemns 'harmless' thoughts, he certainly condemns second base, third base, and everything else before marriage.

To me, thats kind of like a "Bill Clinton" kind of question.. (and no I have nothing against Bill Clinton. personally) But, to me, sex is sex... There are different stages (or bases, if your prefer), but it is all sex. Sex could be defined as "the lusting of another" in your heart or mind and "unwed" that is a no..no.. So to me, that would cover second base also...
I am in no way preaching to you, just trying to give my opinion... See I am also involved in a 4 yr relationship with a man that I love dearly, but am not married to and God and I are still working on that issue.

If you have in mind how close can you get w/o going too far- it may not be sex- but it is lust and unpure-think about it-D
2 Timothy 2:22
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

why are you thinking of challenging the meaning of no sex before marriage. Thinking, sex is penetration, so, doing it without penetration is conceivable/permissible?
These rules and traditions are human made, but will help everyone in sinning to the minimum, but still sinning when intentionaly done.
No sex before marriage is better, to discipline everyone, that don`t go into relationships with someone when you are not contemplating to marry her, or don`t want her to deserve your commitment, just playing, or want her for plain lust...
...its meaning is... cheating/fooling/bad intention/ulterior motive/ defeating/violating other human being...and you`re sinning.
Sin can be consummated in thought, words and in deed (actions)
-If you lust on others even without 1st base sex... is sinning.
How about marrying her...and have license to have sex with somebody.
-If one of you are with commitments already, that`s cheating, a sin
-If you`re just studying and teeners...how about studying 1st then agree to have commitments post study, for surety.

If you've read the Bible then you know what Jesus said about looking at a person with lust in your heart.

Until you are engaged it seems to be saying treat her as a Sister. Meaning love and serve her in purity with no ulterior meanings
