It's just part of their independence, it's growth. no worries they still love you, just go with it, don't embarrass them, they'll come back all in good time

This age is very sensitive, my daughter will turn ten soon, she cares a lot about what I wear when her friends are around, and she does her best for her father to look "cool" on weekends, I think they talk about it between them, whose parent is cute and who is not.
They also like to show their friends that they are independent, and that they have cool parents, and they don't need permission from them. So, I guess it is very normal, I always ask my daughter for her opinion in what to wear, and I treat her more like a friend now, and try to give her a secret or two to make her feel older.

hi shon,
I never treat kids like kids, I trat them like adults, though they are young, they have capacity to understand and also to think. If you show them trust and be a part of them , then they will reciprocrate.
I am 30 y/o old and when i meet a kid say 10 yrs old , i put on the shoes of 10 years old kid , i talk about games, their interests, if you talk to 15 y/o again i put on a difft shoes, so i think if we can identify self with the other person , then they become instantaneously friends. they accept as their peers.
This is from my experience..
good luck

alot of it has to do with ur relationship before that age, but my relationship was good with my daughter before that age and when she turned , i had to talk to her and find out why i was not to be seen with her, and most of the answers i got back where my school friends all laugh at me ect, then u become uncool and u don't dress good etc etc, i sadly had to bribe to claw her back , my way was Ill buy her cool trainers if I'm allowed to wear cool trainers too
