The main reason is the longer you wait the less likely you will be to go at all. As time goes on we lose opportunities, not to mention jobs get in the way, children come into the picture and chances are you no longer live with your parents so can't afford to go cause you actually have to work just to survive.

Depends: Most of the time it is better to start right away because life gets in the way. People that decide to wait a few years to go to college tend to get caught up in job, marriage, kids, mortgages, credit cards, braces, etc.....Life get's in the way. Of course, there is nothing wrong with life. But, if you plan to start right with everyone else you will be in a social group your same age. You'll have more in common with them. If you start right away you'll get to immediately build on the knowledge you obtained in high school/GED. You are use to studying now. 2-3 years from now making youself study might be more difficult. Plus, the older you get the harder it may be to learn.
On the other hand, older students tend to be more mature. Life has knocked them around a little bit more. They are more focused-less likely to make the same mistakes over and over. It may be harder for you to learn something, but you're more likely to stick with it.
Overall, I would start right away. You'll have more in common with friends you'll meet. You're more likely to actually get started. You probably be able to keep up a full head of steam-coming right out of getting your GED. Although, many people mature with age, and starting later may be fine, I've found that not everyone grows up.
Also, look at the numbers. Just having a college degree increases your chances of making more money throughout life. It may also increase your chances of getting a job you like. You'll have more options. Just try to pick a field of study with a future. Don't run up 30K in college bills to get into a profession where you'll earn 25K each year. Remember, so many people plan to start college in a few years. Life doesn't always care about your plans.

its better to start when u first get out of high school. Dont wait because u will probably get a job and not want to quit because u are makin money so u might decide not to go to college. if u go when ur 17 u will get out earlier than the 18 year olds. if u wait to long u will not want to go to college because of the freedom of not goin to school everyday.

Look at the different colleges you are interested in and contact them. They will send you their catalog and the fee information will be in it.
If you are use to studying on a regular bases then it may help you to start next semester, but as far as blending in with the student body being a little older might be better.
I did not go to college until I was about 40 and graduated with honors.
Good luck in your studies.

It is usually better to go right after high school, because the longer you wait you may not want to go especially when you get older. Because you're so young, you can probably afford to wait until you are 18. You'll be more mature too.
