I've heard that this double standard exists in big cities also. Turkish women are expected to be virgins before they get married but turkish men will go to bordellos and have sex with sex workers whenever they want and then expect turkish women to be virgins.

Is that true? I've heard that in big cities even the double standard is expected. I thought that the cities like Istanbul,Ankara, Izmir, they were more fair to women?

How acceptable is it in the big cites for a unmarried woman to not be a virgin?

Huh.... I wasn't aware that I was expected to be a virgin.

That is totally a personal choice. Some would prefer not to have sex before marriage not only in Turkey but also in US (have friends). Regarding the Turkish men, my male friends tell me that they do not prefer to have an unexperienced wife.

Your comments are true for eastern and middle Anatolia. There men think that virginity is related to the future wife's honour and also the family name's honour.

Even girls who have university degrees in modern cities of Turkey, they don't want to have sex before marriage, and i know all my friends especially who have girlfriend they visit bordellos just because of their girlfriends have really strict, conservative attitude about sex. So whoever writes about Turkish girls and their standpoint about sex are just like western countries, it is completely bullshit. I'm 27 years old. i have dated 8 Turkish gals so far and 6 of them were virgin. I would say %75 or %80 of Turkish girls keep their precious hymen until marriage if they aren't able get chance to get marry, probably they keep it till death.
It is still a big issue in Turkey

I see hmmm. Let me think on this. Isn't there any double standard out of there? Are you sure women have really equal conditions, opportunities all over the world? Are 50% of politicians, lawyers, doctors, leaders, directors women on this planet eardth?

what about sexuality difference.Come on ask an Indian, ask a Catholic...You must be sure that there are many isolated villages in UK and US that you may get a shock strike.Your next step would be double(pardon me triple) standard towards homosexuals and then satanists...This never ends up.

It is about freedom and democracy not only a country, it is about being a human. If you are really sincere on your words and then think about the huge prostitution import from Russia not only Turkey but also German and other european countries. If you really on the side of poor women then you make action for the women who are on the other side also. Do you know Turkey has the widest programme on preventing foreign prostitution in Europe? and be sure there are a few bordellos in the cities what you have mentioned above as "more fair". Most of other cities have none.

And there are really very few(those are in countryside) radical conservative young women and men who care about virginity(actually adultery, sex without marriage).

Old generation insists on sex with marriage and it is easy for them to check poor girls. But present and coming generations are different.

And adultery is forbidden in islam not only for men but also for women. But freedom comes first, because Allah(God) let all for our own choices.

I'm afraid that double standard is across the entire planet. It's not a big deal here mostly. But here is the US where" we're all terrible and decadant people". Personally I think it's a guy thing(from insecurity). I once gave a co-worker a button htat said....Men are good for one thing...but what do you do with them the other 23 hours and 45 minutes???>>

Yes, u r unfortunately right, but lets think about an American father, English father, Italian father, Chinese father, German father, Indian father, etc... Should they say "my son and my daughter are both free in their sexual lives"?

So, this question is not for only Türkiye.

And I have a daughter(8 months old) that both me and my wife agreed to educate her in a free way.

Double standard exists everywhere. I know many Catholics in the US that carry the same belief. I have been to Turkey many times and they seem to be quite open abouit sex for both males and females.

well it is all about the male ego. let me tell you that men secretly compete among themselves to have the perfect wives so that they can boast about it and feel proud. men dont admit it but it is a fact. a women`s virginity is the proof that she has had no sexual contacts in the past. this really makes them even more desired than non-virgins.

Good question..It's not true for big cities (I'm sure of it) but for Anatolia cities..unfortunately it's true..But Türkiye will beat this with education, I believe it.
