Who pays for missinaries to stay overseas? How do Mormon missionaries 'make a living'? Do they earn a wage?

Truth be told all Mormons are required to do a certain period of missionary work, whether it be at home or abroad. I'm certain that any expenses and basic needs will be met by the church during that, but as far as an actual salary I think not. However since the Mormon church has built for themselves a very comfortable little world for their followers I am certain that no Mormon who gives of their time to missinary requirements is going to suffer financially for it.

No, no commission.
The missionary himself/herself with possible help from their parents pays for the missionary to go on their mission - where ever they may go, whether over seas or not. They earn the money they live on prior to going. They do not earn any money while on their mission, nor do they recieve any money from the church after their mission.
The church does have a Missionary Fund that members can donate to if they wish. 100% of the money donated helps a person who would otherwise not be able to serve a mission, do so. Most of the time when teens get jobs (like at 15 or 16) they put most of that money away into a savings account for their mission. A lot of times families will help, and some families even have a routine where any money the child earns (from chores, birthdays, Christmas, etc) goes into a variety of savings like a mission fund.

UPDATE:
Poki Poki, I'm surprised at your answer. We do not give 75% of our income!! It's only 10%. No one could live if they gave 75% of their income away! I mean, really, think about your answer.

And someone else said that all Mormons are required to serve a mission. That's not entirely true. Men are strongly encouraged to serve a mission, but women are not - although some do. All members are encouraged to do what they can through the course of their day/week/life to share the Gospel with non-member family and friends. But we are not called to be full time missionaries in the sense that most associate. It's no different than anyone else who invites their friends and neighbors to come to church, or Bible study group, etc.

I served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka LDS or Mormon church). Here's how it works. Every missionary pays a certain amount to the Church (when I was out, it was $350 a month) This goes into a fund that the Church uses to pay for the expenses of the missionaries. So really, the missionaries support their own way. They do not get paid by the church, and there are no commisions for converts.

They pay for everything themselves (or their family). They usually have an "allowance" (which is still their own money) each month to buy their groceries and whatever else they need...It costs about $9000 for two years. The church will help a missionary if the need it, there is a "missionary fund" that members donate to to help missionaries who can't afford it but still want to be serving the Lord. They don't "make a living". They get no monetary wage - they are paid in BLESSINGS! and when a missionary is out - the family is also receiving countless blessings at the same time.

No, missionaries aren't paid anything. As a matter of fact, they are encouraged to work prior to their missions and save up the money required to pay for their living expenses. Often a missionary's family will help support them, or members from the ward can help by donating to a general missionary fund. The monies are used only to pay for the missionary's living expenses, such as rent, food, and so forth. I served a two-year mission for the Church ten years ago, and it cost me about $10,000. If I remember correctly, I paid six or seven thousand from my own savings, and my parents helped out with the rest.

Full-time missionaries do not receive any compensation from the Church. Sources of income for their maintenance comes from savings that the missionary had built up prior to full-time service as a missionary, or from donations by other members. Donations can be accepted to pay for the needs of the missionary, but not for any excess.

Most missionaries receive all their income from their own savings or donations from parents and other close relatives.

No commission is received for baptisms.

as long as you have been a member for no less than a twelve months, and as long as you're nevertheless residing by utilising the commandments while it's time to serve, sure, you are able to circulate. Being a convert has no longer something to do with it. considered one of my venture companions were a convert for much extra suitable than a twelve months, and he or she substitute into between the final missionaries I knew. once you seize up with on your 21st birthday (approximately 5 months in the past), enable your bishop be attentive to which you extremely choose for to serve. he will interview you and get you began on the workplace work. i be attentive to it extremely is a protracted time away, even if it's going to be extremely surely worth the wait! And interior the propose time, share the gospel as ultimate you are able to now. If there are sister missionaries on your section, circulate out with them. in case you have acquaintances outdoors the church, invite them to events and conferences. communicate on your kinfolk in the event that they have not already joined. you're able to do exactly as plenty now as you should on an legitimate venture, so do no longer wait until you're out interior the sector to share the gospel!
