I'm in good physical shape and currently taking high school courses to upgrade my skills to what's required to apply. But from a competitive standpoint would I be at a disadvantage as (assuming I get into the program) I would be starting as a paramedic at around 32-33? I don't want to to go through all this schooling just to be passed over for being too old or something like that. Any help (especially from Toronto Canada Paramedics) would be appreciated! Thank You

I know nothing about Canada, sorry. I do know that it is never to late to follow a dream. If you feel like you are meant to be a paramedic then go for it!!! It takes a very special person to do the job and do it right, I have 2 cousins who are paramedics and my best friends son is also. He didn't get into it until he was 31. He is now 36 and goes all over Ca. to help out at wild fires. Get your education in order and when you go to apply, show self confidence and be sure of yourself and you will make it! If your in good medical shape you should have no problem. GO FOR IT!!! I'll pray for you, God bless, and good luck.

There were three or four paramedic students in my class that were over 30, and I don't believe they had any harder of a time getting a job than I did. As long as you are in good physical shape, it shouldn't be a problem. At 30, you have much more experience than those of us in our 20's and are probably better equipped to handle the stresses that come along with the job.
Hope this helps!

I'm not in Canada, but I did not become a medic until I was 30, pretty close to the same age. If anything, I think it was an advatage for me. Most of my potential employers felt much more at ease and felt I was much more mature than the 18 - 25 year old prospects. I did not have any trouble finding work, and I feel like I've made a wonderful decision.

In most places as long as you can perform your skills as a Paramedic without any major problems then you can get a job. I know Medics who are in their late 60's and 70's who still practice. There is a global shortage of Medics so finding a job is usually never a problem for Medics. I wish you luck, and hope that you do well in your choice to join us crazy people...LOL
