It means that life is so complex and ones experiences so diverse as one grows older that one realizes how truly little one does know. Because knowledge from life is never ending. Thus we realize "how little we know" compared to how much there is to learn.

Miss Cotell again was silent but still no less impressed and then quite suddenly, affected in a different way, an urge to weep restrained. The implication is that the first exhilaration had been more pronounced. She was better able to keep her composure during the event that followed and remained silent. Then she put all the the pleasant events of the day together and quite suddenly was awash with a nostalgia bringing her close to tears.

Never heard that b4, But heres my interpitation:

The more you see ( in the world ) The more you begin to understand theres some crazy things going on out there, and you start to relize...you dont know it all after all, or have not seen it all after all, you ever hear some one say: " and I thought I seen it all" ?? meaning damn, you learn sumthin new every day...

Thats how i felt when I learned about the fremasons, and other Satanic Occults in our Government, But this world is Crazy, and theres always a new Drug, a new religion, a new orgy, or what ever the hell you stumble across...that will make people say that..

well this is an opinion question... i dont think u can get fact unless u talk to them personally... but think... u usually dont believe something unless u see it... and what u dont know to be true is imagination... ur imagination is bigger than the world.. and the more u see whats real.. the less ur imagination gets... i mean can u play cops and robber now like u used to no... because u dont have a real jailcell and all the other stuff u now know... so in a sense ur limit what u know to be in ur imagination...

Well, it just means that if you keep studying very different subjects you won't know anything, you have to focus on something in order to be expert on it.
Take it as this:

It is better for you to know everything about something than something about everything.
