I just read a question (or rather a rant) posted earlier about how Christ is being removed from Christmas. Her basis for this was she had heard 'Oh Tannenbaum' instead of 'Oh Christmas Tree' and had seen cards that read 'Yuletide Greetings'. I seriously hope she was joking. Cards that read Yuletide Greetings have been around for as long as I can remember and Oh Tannenbaum is the original German version of the song. Besides what do Christmas trees have to do with Christ its a tradition brought to the UK (at least) from Germany (hence the song originally being in German).
Then there are Christians around who dont realise Christmas was originally (still is) the Pagan festival of Yule. I know a lot of Christians do know this but there are some who dont, how can some people be so clueless about the foundations of their own religion?

Please dont take offence, I know a lot more people do know the basis of their religion than those who dont.

In my experience, devoutly religious people exist solely on faith. They refuse to delve into the actual world history, or even any verified history relating to their religion.

They choose to be clueless, take only what is told to them in church as "the truth". These are the last people you want to try and have an intelligent conversation regarding their religion's historical accuracy.

These are people who truly believe "God" wrote the bible. Nevermind that the "bible" is a conglomeration of hundreds, if not thousands, of texts, manuscripts, papyri, etc. Nevermind that King James was a meglomaniac who only allowed into the finished product those items that helped to entrench the church's and his, power.

Attempting to enlighten people like that is futile. They do not want to hear it. It's almost as if reality could shake their faith, so they avoid it at all costs.

It is not necessarily religion that corrupted Christmas, but world wide pop culture. Christmas has been dumbed down, just like Halloween, to be a sad excuse to be greedy and get free stuff. Still to each his own. Live the Holidays the way you want to. There will be others doing it their way too, otherwise the world would just be a bunch of one person. We use others to define ourselves. I have to admit though, seeing holidays go to gluttony and greed does make me gloomy.

SAANKYA is the common philosophy on which many non secular Conceptual Tenets of:- Sanathana Dharmam ( incorrect call Hinduism) Jainism Buddhis Sikhism are in line with As I understand :-Abrahamic cluster of Religions like Christianity believes that the Psychic,Somatic bodies And Soul signify ONE single Unit.--after dying the physique could desire to be preserved, till God's Son comes back to Earth on Judement day and reasons the " Re-Surrection" of the guy Soul with the corresponding physique and takes with Him each and all the " believers" ,abandoning the " Non- believers".some billion bodies are waiting in Cabins for approximately 2000 Years under hundreds of thousands hectares Of Land for Re-Surrection Hindu cluster of Religions stated above flow in accordance to Saankya college of concept. i love this question.. its not only christians that are totally unaware of the origin of their religion... in my view people are all in a different religion.. the believe in some parts of it but not others, sorta contorting their religion into a now new twisted one...
i know people that claim to be muslim and yet they dont pay attention to what they eat or the products that they use... and its horrible to claim a religion that u actually dont get or practice to the extent... but people really enjoy having soemthing that believe in whether it is in full understanding of what they believe or their own twisted version

I was pretty sure that question/rant was a joke.

*I've never actually met anyone who was that clueless about their own religion but I don't really know that many religious people anymore

It was satire. She was poking fun at people who do not understand the history of their religion. Read her other questions.

Edit: I agree that it is scary as well. By the way the top bit is meant as nicely as possible.

Yes. Many Christian sects actively discourage their members from questioning their leaders or learning anything outside of what they are told.

I know the origins, & am not bothered by that knowledge. I, in fact, pointed out that person's error. (I do hope it was a joke, but around here you never know.)

I assume the people are learning the basics of their religion. They should learn what is important first.
Evergreen trees are not that important in the grand scheme of things.

Of course some people may just not be smart
