Yes - tattoos do hurt. Anyone that says they don't hurt is lying, though they often hurt less than you imagine they will... but then again it all depends on what you have and where you get it done. (The shading and colouring hurts most and bleeds like hell!)

If you have to ask whether you should get a tattoo or not, the answer is probably no for the time being. A tattoo is something you have for the rest of your life - It should be meant. It should be something that means something to you and that you want to keep a hold on. Although they are decorative, they should be more than just decoration. Tattoos can be works of art in their own right, but it has to be the right thing at the right time.

Think about it properly - don't get one on a whim just because they look cool. If you're going to maim yourself, it should be for something worthwhile. It's your body to do what you like with - but if you're not sure you need to take your time.

Take care

It depends on several things -
1. Your pain threshold
2. Where you are having the tattoo
3. How good your tattooist is.

I had one on my shoulder blade (small butterfly) and i nearly passed out, the guy was so rough and it took an hour to complete something that should take about 15 minutes.
I then went to my current tattooist and had 1/2 my thigh covered in 4 hours and it hurt so much less, not only because of the difference in placing but because he was better at his job!

If you want a tattoo you should get one but make sure its once that you really want. If you want it enough in the end your wanting the tattoo will out weigh the aspect of pain.
Anyway the pain of having a tattoo done by a good tattooist isnt as bad as people think.

Tattoos hurt to an extent. It depends on where you get it at, and your own pain threshold. When you're initially getting the tattoo it's not really a pain thing as much as it's just plain irritating after a while. There is some pain afterwards, kinda feels like a sunburn. Depending on the location and the amount of work done factors into how much stinging you'll have. Keep it clean, use antibacterial soap to clean it twice a day, and after it starts to heal put lotion on it....try using a perfume free, hypo-allergenic lotion though

Grit your teeth, lol the out line hurts till u get used to the pain after a min or two its rather pleasurable, the filling in is a lot better and not so pain full.
If you are thinking of getting one make sure u go to a clean studio with people who know what there doing.
And rem after u get the tattoo don't pick it or u will end up with bits of it missing..........another thing to rem is a tattoo is for life unless u pay to have it removed which can be costly and leave a scar.
I am 55 with a blue rose and vine on my ankle.............what will people think when I'm 80 lol.........good luck think long and hard i have no regrets .

You have to be sure. I got my first when i was 16. I have 5 now but i love them all and they can become quite addictive!! Just make sure you choose the right place and design, be 100% sure there is no going back!! All tattoos have a slight pain some people can handle the pain better then others. I would say it does hurt a little but more discomfort then pain and a slight hot burning scatching scraping feeling!! It hard to describe but those who have had them will understand what i mean!! Just remember choose your design carefully and dont have it some where you will regret later on in life like on your wedding day and you have a bulldog on ya shoulder do you get what im saying!!!!

The pain of a tattoo depends on the person getting it, how they deal with pain, and where they get it. Basically getting a tattoo means your skin is being ripped open with needles while those needles inject ink into your skin. I know that sounds bad but that is what it is.
I think if you really want a tattoo go ahead and get one. Just be sure of what you want, so you dont end up regretting it. And make sure you get it done by someone that knows what they are doing and are good at what they do.

If you have ask if you should get one then the answer is no don't get one. Yes they do hurt but not as bad as you might think, the pain depends on the area of the body. Arms hurt less, stomach hurts more. But don't get a tattoo if you are not sure.

Yes, getting a tattoo does hurt, but the intensity of the pain depends on the positioning and your own personal pain threshold.

As for whether you should get one or not, only you can answer that.

how bad the pain is partly depends on where you get it at...the one on the top of my foot not only hurt like a rubber-band snapping me repeatedly, but also made me feel nauseous and like i was going to pass out because of all the nerves in that area. i would get another one though!
my advice is that if you want it and you're ok with having it for the rest of your life, go for it! but i would definitely think the decision through for awhile to be sure it's what you want.

it depends on what pain means to you. It also depends on where it is. I have 2 and it hurt @ first but w/in a matter of minutes it didn't hurt anymore. I however, experience pain differently than most. It depends on why you are getting one. If it is just to look cool, it depends on where your standards lie.
