Her dog ended up being put to sleep due to the poisoning. Our family is just so upset. Our daughter had her dog trained to do several tricks and was her very best friend. Is there anything legally we can do to this family or this kid?

Do you have any proof that your neighbor's kid's friend did this? I would suggest calling animal control and seeing if you have a case. This is a sad situation, but unless you have seen the kid do it, or have hard evidence (meaning other animals in the same area have been poisoned and it's near the neighbor's house) there might not be anything legally that can happen. I am sorry for your loss though. :(

A parent can do a lot as long as you have proof. The proof is the ticket. You can call the police or the Humane society can give you the right direction to go on this I won't let it go because the next time it could be a kid. That is so sad. I definitely would press charges . They get off too easy and should be punished full extent of the law.

I am so sorry for the loss of her pet/friend. It is hard enough on someone when a life is lost by natural means . . . but to lose them in this way is beyond terrible. Do you have any proof that the neighbor kids did it? If you do, call your local ASPCA and they will investigate. If you do not have one, like we don't where I live, I would just call your local police. Even if they can not prove animal abuse, maybe they can at least talk to the kids that did it and get them to confess or at least scare them into never doing anything like that again! If these kids are killing animals for kicks now, it is scary to think what they will be capable of as adults. I hope your friend gets the justice she deserves . . . for herself and her dog.

Yes, there is. Murdering a dog is cruelty to animals. You need to contact the police-regardless if it was a kid that did the poisoning. I sympathize with you.

well if your dog was poisoned in your yard then I would suggest calling the police. But if it happened outside your yard then sorry to say but there is nothing you can do. I know for experience my husband had a Huskey and the neighbor dog came in to our yard and attacked his dog causing it to brake his leg well the cops said that if it happened in your yard you have rights to a law suit but if it happened in the street or outside of your yard there is really nothing you can do. We are outside city limits now if you live in city limits there are leash laws.

There are laws about that kind of action in most cities call the police. You can try to sue the party to. Lost and pain and suffering, this is one of the times that it would be justified to sue

If you have proof that this kid did it you can file a Police Report.
If you don't, if your word against them.
