This is very common this time of year, the blood normally means to much straining or he has scratched his bottom, normally with diarrhoea its common to not eat but to be honest if you have a tummy bug you should get your son to eat a little, that way the bug flushes through quicker, go to the chemist for some diarrhorite, this puts back the salts that are lost through running to the toilet, just make sure your son drinks lots of fluid and before you know it, he will be back to his old normal self

My son did that and they said it was just a bug but it kept coming back we had the scope ran both ways, blood work test, a scan of his abdomen and other test nothing should up but he was loosing to much weight. We took him to a new hospital and they ran one test and found he had a abscess the size of a grapefruit and the other test should he had crohns disease. So you might want to go see a new doctor if it is not getting better. I will say a pray for your son and family. Good Luck

Hi as a mum of 3 and nana to 2 Firstly I would say try not to worry as your son will pick up on your feelings too.As a mother your are naturally worried any mum would be.You have been to the doctors and given a sample for testing.I would not worry about him eating in fact if you could keep him on a liquid diet for a day it would give his bowel a rest please push him by given dyrolite solution drinks after every bowel movement to replace body salts and in between give him as many water based fluids as he will drink.I would give him either something like paracetamol or calpol depending on his age, keep him warm let him rest and review him after 24hrs.Keep an eye on his movements maybe keeping notes on what he eats and drinks and I know it sounds daft but note what his movements are like soft/hard and if he is still bleeding.if he carries on after 24hrs i would take him to A and E or Primary Care to be re-assessed,I hope hes better soon, best wishes Mandy.

my son alsop had diarrhoea for 1 month and he had to go to the emergency ward. dont worry. i think your son has shigella. what you can do is the following.1)stop all milk or dairy product. there is a special milk for diarrhoea affected children. ask the doc if your son can take that.2)give plenty of water, like saline water, coconut water, fizzy drinks. but not fruit juice. give him a glass of oral saline everytime he goes potty. 3)take care to see if he is not dehydrated. check the back of his palms. if the skin is lose after you pull it , then seek medical help. my son was1 year old and he didnot take any saline. so we had to give him intraveinous saline.4) give him light food. soft rice and potatoes, green bana nas cookes , boiled fish or chicken, no junk food. 5)keep him clean.5) watch out for nappy rash. dont make him wear any nappys. relax. we have all been there. you can contact me if you need help.

I kind of agree with everyone, BUT, if it were my son and no test had been performed yet, I'd want a solid answer as to why he was having this problem.
You don't say how old he is, but if you are still his caregiver, take him to another dr. if only to put your mind at ease and to get a clear reason as to what is causing this.
Could be something as simple as a virus, but being a mom myself, I like having the answers as to why my child just isn't himself.
God Bless.

everyone is giving great answers... i would say... just keep up the water... NO dairy... like at ALL. and try getting a stool softener.... could be that his rectum isn't large enough for his colon. the diarrhea might just be from something simple, the blood could be because he is tearing the walls of his rectum every time he has a BM.

keep up the water... don't worry... wait on the test results. you did the right thing. he will be fine.

Forget the doctors they get it wrong at times, take him to A & E its probably nothing, the blood is bright red it could be irritation or a small rip in his lower rectum. If he is in pain get him to A & E asap, you will both feel better. Not knowing is the worst thing.

Wait until the results come back would be the sensible thing to do. failing that try and keep him hydrated and try and avoid milk and dairy products i found they don't help.
