I find Clove Oil is fantastic for tooth pain. It doesn't taste very nice though but I swear by it when I have tooth ache. Don't know what your pain could be. Might be an exposed nerve. I had a similar pain but it only went away for a minute after I would clean my teeth. Then it would come back again. I would go the dentist and get it looked at. I put off going to the dentist for 6 months with my pain until it got to the point where I was not getting any sleep so I went and it was slightly too late. Half of my tooth was so badly decayed that I had to have it re-built which cost me £180 and I had to have it re-built in gold which was cheaper than white believe it or not and now when I smile I look slightly like a pirate. Oh Arghh!!

Sounds like you may have a tooth that has decayed close to a nerve. Get to your dentist ASAP. He'll probably prescribe antibiotics, and then want to do a root canal.
You may have sensitive teeth and a mild cavity. It's difficult to say what is causing your pain without seeing the tooth itself, but I would be willing to bet that you need a root canal.
Listerine helps until the antibiotics kill the pain. Any time your teeth start to hurt, use the Listerine. It will take the pain away for a small while.
Get to your dentist, though. It will not get better unless you go. Root canals aren't as scary as they sound.

With out seeing you its difficult. But it sounds like what i had, it could be your wisdom tooth coming through or one of your back teeth is at an awkward angle. When you eat food traps and stagnates making the gum red and sore. When you brush it gets rid of the stagnated food easing the pain slightly. You should go the the dentist for some antibiotics. You don't necessarily need the tooth out, with me it flares up a couple of times a year and i need antibiotics. This is just a suggestion, you should really get it sorted out. Good luck.

There's no way to tell over the Net, but two things I'd have checked would be dental x-rays (to look for impactions) and have blood pressure checked. You may need to consult with a DDS (dental surgeon) in addition to a regular DMD.
Hope you find the cause, and more importantly a solution. In the meantime, a pain reliever such as ibuprofen may provide some temporary relief.
