If they are fibroids of the uterus, there are several procedures that can be done to eliminate them or cause them to shrink. They can be removed surgically but can grow back (mine did), there is a proceedure where they inject a substance through an artery in the leg into the uterus that block the bloodflow to the fibroids, cutting off their source of nourishment.

In many cases, having multiple fibroids can cause the woman to be unable to conceive. I would have loved to have another child and tried for several years without success. I ended up having a hysterectomy 4 years ago, when they fibroids grew to the size of a 5 month pregnancy.

Fibroid are not usually cancer. Fibroid, also called fibroma, are usually benign neoplasm consisting largely of fibrous or fully developed connective tissue. Simply known as "benign tumor" I had these and they are usually associated with the uterus. I ended up having a hysterectomy but that was after I had 4 children. It will not prevent her from getting pregnant, depending on her age of course, They can cause pain. I had a lot of pain which is why my doc decided to do the hyst. Good luck to your wife. Keep a check on them and really,,,don't worry to much about them.
