The Continental Army, 1774-1783. All I'd want would to be there at the very beginning of this grand experiment.

I'd love to be an unknown magician serving as a private in the grandest army ever arrayed and stop the next war before it started while maintaining the dignity and personal rights of any that would have been involved.
War is the basest form of human endeavor, it causes men to become beasts, it casts a shadow on succeeding generations, it detracts from all forms of human advancement by using resources wrongly and wastefully.
I know first hand because I have been there. My small unit ( I was a 1LT, Inf in Nam) with massive infantry, artillery and air support killed so many enemy (and bystanders) compared to our loses that we should be war criminals. I guided an operative twice to villages where he executed an official (with whom I had conversed and eaten dinner) and his family to purge communist influence from that area. And that was in a 'limited' war......
I have studied history and find most wars are plunged into without a lot of thought and without much regard for possible, let alone, exigent consequencies.
The Glory of War
Warriors garbed in the filthy raiments of battle
Eyes beseiged by tears for friends, allies, enemies fallen,
Ears no longer scient of soft supplications,
Hearts like icebergs adrift far from the common flow,
Know, the glories of war
Are maniacal illusions.
And yet, I realize that some wars are forced and 'necessary to survive and maintain one's way of life'. So, I gird my loins and choose the 'War on Terror'. I would assasinate Saddam Hussien and his sons in '91, using massive air power and 'the bomb' if necessary. Even the bomb, properly sized and used, would have killed less Iraqis than have died due to what we have now done. It would have also made a statement that you could not trifle with the USA. 9/11 would not likely have occurred. It would have ended once and for all these stupid, wasteful 'limited wars' that we seem to get engaged in everywhere.

This has have been given to be the silliest question yet as there are far too many components to factor in! Are the yank going to be resupplied ? What form of conflict floor could this conflict ensue? In a city or city battling highway by utilising highway Or open floor? Or heavily wood hill factors! And to the persons who think of cutting-edge weapons are that superb take a glance on the community american wars of the nineteenth Century! And having experienced the yank military battling shoulder to shoulder with them I certainly tend to favour the Romans! inspite of cutting-edge technologies the yank are completely shambolic and ineffective at tactic's which especially are taught at West element from all classes of historical past yet needless to say while the Twerps that be come the commanding officers of the destiny at as quickly as ignore! So i could say the Romans could after keeping heavy casualties could win!

I would follow the greatest military leader the world has ever known Temujin. Roman Legions and puny Macedonian Phalanxes u say. Ha! they barely got out of their back yard compared to me. Whole states surrender rather than fight when they hear me come. Napoleon you say. he get beat by puny Russian who pretend he Ceasar We mow down Russians like a Toro across a football field. at least till that crazy Ivan guy.
So Who The Great Temujin is? What army I fight for? you tell me good! For we best army by far the world ever see.
I AM THE GREATEST! I float like a butter fly sting like a bee Cassius was great but he not fight like me!
Well that was fun!

The Army led by George Washington. I just have a "thing" about true leaders that put they selves in harms way for their country, over and over again.
..how many horses went under him and he kept on?, how many bullet holes he had on his body and a busted knee cap? Now that is an American ! That's all.

Since my main goal would be to promote an American way of life and since we have won all of our wars except for Vietnam and Iraq that would limit my 2 options. Since both of them are very recent my impact might be limited, but I would have to pick Vietnam. Our defeat there has lead to America being negative towards our military and leery of intelligence like the CIA. This clearly would of made us better able to handle Iraq, and may have prevented 9/11 altogether.
