I have to bake pies with sweetner in them instead of sugar. I have never done this before and, I need to know if it bakes as good as sugar does. If it doesn't, then I need an alternative that will not give me high blood sugar. Can anyone help? I appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Only the sacchrin based sweetners like "sweet n low" can be substituded in cooking. All the aspartame based sweetener like "Equal" will not stand up to the heat or acid in pie fillings.
Don't try to sub sweeteners in cakes as this calls for special calculation in the rising properties, unless you get the recipe from the manufacturers.

Splenda puts out a "sugar blend for baking" product. It is incorporated with real sugar, but better tasting than the saccarin counterparts. Significantly lower sugar, and you can't taste the difference in the desert you use it in. There are 10 calories per 1/2 teaspoon, and only 2 carbs in the same 1/2 teaspoon. Great for baking!!

YES - but a qualified yes

Go to the sweetener's website - they probably have some recipes they have tested out that work. And there may be other additional ingredients instead of a straight sub for sugar.

I tried to sub an artificial sweetener straight out even in a brownie mix - (LOL) they came out FLAT - and all the butter pooled on the top of the brownies. We replaced some holes in the drywall with them.

yeah - it should work - and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family - we are so Blessed

I made a pumpkin pie with it this week, with Splenda. Came out great. I also use the brown sugar Splenda a lot (for apple crisp) and on my oatmeal in the morning and in cookies. Don't use anything else as I am a diabetic so I have to try these things.
