yes, i had this problem about 6 years ago when I got a white filling and I had to get it changed to a silver one due to it causing me a lot of pain.
In march this year, I got 3 white fillings and already they have started to break off.
I think they are weaker than the silver fillings and when I finally get to see a dentist, I will be asking for the silver ones again

It's not a bad idea to get white fillings. Some people feel the amalgum metal is toxic for your body, but it has been used for years. White fillings do not last as long as metal fillings because they are not as strong, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DENTIST SAYS. White fillings are a plastic resin. Amalgum fillings can last 50 years or more, believe it or not. However, white fillings are more esthetically pleasing. Replacing a filling may cause sensitivity to the tooth. Vibrations from the handpiece (drill) can cause nerve sensitivity in the tooth. Doesn't always happen, but it may and it is uncomfortable. May or may not last for a long time. I would replace amalgum fillings that only are decayed. Or for esthetic purposes on the bottom teeth because one can see those teeth when you talk or laugh. Harder to see the top biting surfaces of teeth. Mouthguards or niteguards are ridiculously overpriced but that's just the way it is. It's worth it if you are grinding your teeth and causing damage or wear. It can last a long time. Several years depending how hard you grind. If you are prone to headaches from the grinding, this would alleviate it. Hope this helped! :)

You are so right. I was eating a peanut and found I was also crunching on that silly white filling when after my tongue went right through that big whole. Platinum is the best but regular gold is just as good as well. But then we could all get choppers and we would not have to worry about anything except for which glass of water did we leave our false teeth in when we get up in the morning.

I recently had a filling replaced as my dentist advised me too get it replaced. It was black one. i had no trouble or anything. He replaced it with a white one. Now it is sensative to hot and cold and its started to go discoloured. I never asked for it to be done. My other filling was fine as it was. he did it for free though whilst I was having a tooth rebuilt after it decayed but I don't see the point of having it replaced.

I had one of those white ones put in and it dropped out as soon as I left the dentist! A way to scam more money I guess becasue they don't last as long even though they are supposed to be safer.

I have never had any success with white fillings. They become loose, they hurt, and they go yellow.
