No. It should not be illegal.
The proper response to protesters at funerals, that maximizes the freedom and liberty of all involved is simply to remove civil liability from those who might "vigorously object" to protesting at a funeral.
In other words, the protesters can't sue if someone counter-demonstrates by poking them in the nose and ribs. Criminal remedy for assault would of course still be available; the protester would simply be unable to profit. (Which is the operating principle behind Fred Phelps "church" that does these protests--get someone mad enough to take a swing and sue for damages to finance the next protest.)

First off, I hope I don't sound biased here - because I am a Patriot Guard. At the moment it is legal to protest the military funerals, for the most part it is the Soldiers that they are protesting that gave them that right in the first place.
I don't think think it should be legal for the following reason; when you protest at city park, sidewalk, etc. - this is a public place where you can simply leave if you do not want to listen to the rhetoric. At a funeral; which is a specific place and time - you cannot simply leave. Protestors are invading space that infringes on your rights.
Think about the difference between the two - This is why I think the protesting should be allowed - but not at the funeral location.

Yes it should be, but I think it should be illegal to protest ANY funeral.... This is just wrong. Save your protesting for the living and those who can continue whatever cause or thing you are protesting against. Let the family and friends grieve in peace you don't even know if they are supporting whatever you are protesting about.

Yes, it should be. Everyone deserves respect during their funeral and protesting, whether peaceful or not, should be prohibited. People who engage in protesting at someone's funeral should be arrested.
Instead of getting people to sympathize with their cause and join the band wagon, I think this type of behavior would make most people look away in contempt. There is a time and a place to make your opinion and feelings known about a cause you support and believe in, but at a funeral is not one of them. For these people to have no more respect for a fellow human being is just wrong. These people should hang their heads in shame.

Well, i don't know if any of you have had friends die in this stupid iraq/afghanistan bs, or ever had to attend a service in one of those countries, far away from home, but i have. They died for a reason, to protect your rights, but there must be a line, and protesting funerals of service members who died fighting for you and their countries deserve respect. I would absolutely end someone if i saw them protest a funeral of a soldier. I would do my prison sentence with honor, just as i serve my country with honor. Its time that this country grows the eff up. Its almost to the point that once im done with my service, i may not return to the US, with all of that type of nonsese running about.

It shouldn't be illegal, imho. It's protected by the 1st Ammendment. I would; however, think it should be totally legally to kick the ever living sh!t out of anyone who is stupid enough to do so. If someone wants to protest, try protesting the government/President/Pentagon, etc or anyone else that could actually impact the offending military policy.

I think that out of respect for the families who are in mourning that it is completely inappropriate. There is always a time and a place to speak your mind about your views....a funeral should not be one of those times or places. It really should not be done out of consideration for people's loss. Anyone who is protesting at the funeral will most likely not the response they are looking for anyway. I think it shows a lack of consideration and a lack of scruples. The day we have to make a law to replace consideration is going to be a sad day in general!!!!
Compassion, consideration and just plain old knowing better ought to be enough!!!

Protesting at funerals is a big NO NO. Give respects to the dead by leaving the grieving families alone, period.
