As they arent conected to freeview/sky etc. will they become obsolete? If so, any ideas on what we can do with them apart from taking them to the dump?

Dont think we can really do much with them other than send them abroad where other counties can use them to full effect. What I want to know is if we HAVE to change over to digital will the government give the people cant recieve freeview or cant afford to change over give us money to buy new tvs?? Or will we all be out of pocket by having to buy new ones??

Dora don't listen to those guys. You can but a set top convertor that will convert digital to analog. Depending on what market you live in it will take a long time for 85% of the market to be HD, that is the benchmark for the local markets to turn off analog. The big question that you will face is if you want to spend the money on the convertor or just buy another TV. By March of next year all TV 13" and up will have to have a convertor built in. I hope that helps. You can also go to the FCC website and follow the links to find out more about the conversion.

Real portables that run on batteries will be a bit useless. You might use them as monitors for camcorders, cctv &c. Anything that runs on the mains can have a freeview adapter fitted. Current price for a tiny dongle that plugs into a scart port is about £40. Otherwise use as an extension on a video or buy a modulator (~£30) to convert from a scart video output to UHF

either buy a digital reciever for it. Or there are recycling places for electronics, which you may hear about more get in touch with your council and they can help. BTW there is one large place somewhere in japan where lots of units get sent to after you get rid of them see if you can find it.
