Is it a mistranslation or something, or is it true? What was the true nature of his dealings with them? Why does modern society treat prostitutes and strippers as outcasts, when Jesus (if he did commune with prostitutes) taught us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us?

Just to clarify I wasn't implying Jesus had intimate contact with prostitutes... just assuming that he treated them with the same kindness he had for anyone else.

As far as the golden rule quite... more in reference to how we treat people in similar professions in todays society... making social commentary and curious about feedback.

He spent time with "sinners" & tax collectors (the dregs of society @ the time). Modern society treats them as outcasts because modern society is not Christ-like.

Many people claim that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.... there is no evidence to back this teaching..... some scholars believe the woman he rescued from stoning to be a prostitute due to the fact the law stated "people" taken in adultery should be stoned.... but her lover was not also brought up to be stoned.... they believe the woman was actually a prostitute and these religious men wanted to use the precepts of the law to do away with an "unwanted"...

Jesus regularly was seen with those that the Hebrew laws and people looked at as "sinners"..... tax collectors were one of the lowest of the low..... yet one of the Apostles was a tax collector.....

Jesus said;
Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
He also stated;
Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

He shows us time and again... that he came so that those who were not close to God.... those that needed forgivness the most.... he was here for them also.

God bless you i hope this helps

I don't think that Jesus telling us to do on to others as you would have them do unto you, was in the context of prostitution. Jesus said to the religious leaders of that day that the tax collectors and prostitutes would get into the kingdom of God before them. I don't think that He had any oher contact with prostitutes, that is recorded in the Bible. He did stop a group of Pharisees from stoning a woman, but she was taken in adultery, not prostitution. There is nothing recorded in the Bible about Jesus having any conact whatsoever with a prostitute.

I don't think I ever completely understood that part of Jesus' life. I do seem to re-call that he did spend time in their presence, according to the Bible.

In my opinion, his intentions were to help, not to harm. I also think this was part of the example he was setting for others. Jesus would hold out a helping hand to anyone who was acting in a way that was harmful to themselves and others.

Jesus' intent was to assist the prostitutes to choose a different way of life....but he did not do it with judgment and he did not do it from a pulpit in a church....he did it by going directly to the source.

I don't know what you mean by the word 'commune'. Jesus went to everyone with the gospel and that included prostitutes. John3:16 says "For God so loved the WORLD, that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life". Those words 'world' and 'whosoever' include prostitutes. God loves prostitutes.

Jesus was not like us. To him all were his sheep. When the sheep go astray the Sheppard upon finding them gives them love. Same is what Jesus did when he was with prostitutes and he managed to reform some. Prostitutes now do not want to be go straight therefore we despise them. They are human but they have gone astray

your talking about a character in history 2000 years ago...nothing anyone says could actually prove or disprove that...it's basically a cold case...if you want to explore a bit though I would recommend the movie The Da Vinci Code..

No he did not, but he did treat them as any other person he dealt with in kindness! Jesus was a perfect example of how a Christian should be!
