The best way is stop all destructive activities in and around it like tree felling, mining, etc., If we leave the forests as it is even the degraded forests become better after some time since regeneration process starts again. We need to understand and make people understand that these forests are very important for us and our environment, climate, clean air, clean water or should we say our water security, food production and life system of earth all depend on them. If we understand this and stop all destructive activities that will be the best.

OOOH! I am going to be so controversial. I live in Australia. Australian forests were subjected to a fire regimen that depended on the animals and plants. The Aboriginals had it down pat! Burn after you have finished with it. Once your stay had taken enough animals, seeds and plant material, set fire to it. I might not be back for 40 years, but I know my kids will eat. I do not know about northern forests, but Australian forests need burning. Some forests had not been burnt for 80 odd years, the end result, loss of life and loss of species.
I have had my say, pine plantations are not good, native forest is good, unless we talk about 10 tonnes of dry dead fall per acre because people are not allowed to collect firewood!

We'd stop all the activities which against our forests. People, moreover, must grow more and more plants as possible as they could on the free land around the world.

Leave it alone.
The forests of our planet were never in danger until WE came along.
The more we interfere with nature, the worse we make it.
