A 32 bit OS means that it can process information 32 bits at a time

ie whatever operation it performs , it does it at a rate of 32 bits at one time

it only means that linux operating system runs on a 32-bit microprocessor. It is not compatible on computers with 64-bit processor like AMDAthlon64.
