I know "cowboy" is a typical American English word. But why "cowboy" not "bullboy"? Anyway I can't imagine boys in the American west just milking cows everyday. Maybe "bullboy" is a more appropriate word.

I would say becasuse you can use cows as a general term. You can point to a herd and say "look at all the cows." You can't say "Look at all the bulls" unless they actually are a herd of uncasterated bovines :)

Semantics I would guess, and to the person that said "After neutering a bull is just a cow." ummmm , NO, after a YOUNG bull gets the snip it is called a Steer, not a cow. Once a bull is more than 2 years old no-one, not even cow/bull-boys are interested in messing with those jewels, Bulls are strong and sometimes violent animals.

And moreso in answer to your cow/bull-boy question, you dont' heard bulls. They are like male lions, if there is females around then the fight is on, big time, and fences get ruined, corrals get bent, etc. You can keep bulls together as long as there is no females (cows) in smelling distance. So, 'cow'boy because thats what they delt with all day.

PS If you hang out in the honest rancher circles there is also another common term "cattlemen".

Life sucks sometimes. Is this the reason you are asking all the morbid questions tonight? Being bummed is okay, but emo? really? you're too old to get your panties in a wad over a simple screw-up after all the sun will still come up tomorrow. And the Bruins will still play, too. To answer your question, "panic prayer" is nothing to feel guilty or ashamed about. It is a mark of your basic humanity and I believe it should be on the list you know praise, petition , and panic. Why not? Everyone does it. Even athiests.

Lots more cows than bulls. After neutering a bull is just a cow. Very few bulls are allowed this privelege. Mostly only champions.

in the wild west cowboy was the racial term for black farm hands, saying that they weren't real "cowmen" but in today's world cowboy has become the term used.

Probablly cuz as a species they're called "Cows". that is, a bull is a male cow, and a cow is a female cow. (I think).
