I was amazed when I saw on the front page of Monday morning's newspaper that one of the illustrious democrats is suggesting (AGAIN) to reinstate the draft. What I didn't understand is "WHY?"

I must add, our military is currently 100% volunteer. Don't you think if we started forcing our young men to go we would have similar propblems to those during VietNam?

I was drafted for the Vietnam War. They didn't call it a war then, they called it a "police action." I asked, the same question, "WHY?"

I think the answer was, "Because we CAN."

*waves a hand in the air* OOOO! OOOO! Pick me! Pick me!

Ok.. the question is "why reinstate a draft?" The truth of the matter is that no one really wants too do this. A bill was drafted too do just this but the intent behind the bill was too try and "encourage" the administration too get out of Iraq on the earlier side of the time line. The bill gets discussed in commity and then before congress and eventually gets sent too the senet... The ***whole*** time that's happening the voting public is going right out of thier minds with the "GOD NO!" and the "WE BETTER GET OUT OF IRAQ BEFORE MY LITTLE BOY TURNS 18 NEXT WEEK!" and all other manner of nonscence.

In some cases you could actually see republicans crossing the floor on the issue if they are in marginal districts and thier seats are under threat.

It's a very unpolished bully tactic. And that's the why of it.

*has a bow*

The military is hurting for bodies right now. Now take into consideration current operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, and possibly add North Korea and Iran some time down, and you will see the world is a pretty messed up place and those needed bodies have to come from somewhere.

Reinstating the Draft will NOT work with this generation's lazy, self-centered and uneducated youth.

They don't care about America, and they certainly aren't going to give two years to serve their Country.

There would be a mass exodus of draft dodgers North to Canada, equaled only by the infiltration of illegal aliens that enter our Country from the South.

Don't worry, it will never be approved. Right now we don't need a draft. If something like World War III came a long maybe we would. Its good to have a plan in place.

Would rather have soldiers who want to be soldiers then men not meant for combat.

Imagine that. So much for garden parties and back rubs.
