Depends on what you mean by irregular. Did you used to have a BM everyday and now it's every 3 days and then every other day, etc.? Are you comparing your bowel habits to someone's elses? It's not necessary and is perfecly normal not to have a BM everyday. It can be harmful to go more than 3 days without one. But if your bowel habits have changed, look at your diet, your fluid intake and your activity level. Increase dietary fiber, cut down on starchy foods, increase water and walk or otherwise exercise more. Give this 4-6 weeks (and be conscientious) but if it hasn't made a difference, see your doctor. There may be an underlying condition that is the source of the problem. It would also be helpful to keep a "diary" of your BMs: The date, time, color, size, consistency (hard, soft, runny). You can show this to the doctor if a visit becomes necessary.

It is generally believed that nearly all colon and rectal cancer begins in benign polyps. These pre-malignant growths occur on the bowel wall and may eventually increase in size. Although most polyps are benign, certain polyps may grow larger and become cancerous. Since there is no absolute way to determine whether a polyp will become cancerous, total removal is advised.

Most polyps produce no symptoms and often are found incidentally during endoscopy or x-ray of the bowel. Some, however, can produce bleeding, mucous discharge, alteration in bowel movement, or in rare cases, abdominal pain.

Bowel movement is a term commonly used for LBM or Diahorrea. Most people are too ashamed to use other words apart from bowel movement. It's a much more civilized way rather than just saying ****.

bowel movement
(noun)

The discharge of waste matter from the large intestine; defecation.
The waste matter discharged from the large intestine; feces.

defecation

Elimination of feces from the digestive tract. Peristalsis moves feces through the colon to the rectum, where they stimulate the urge to defecate. The rectum shortens, pushing the feces into the anal canal, where internal and external sphincters allow them to be passed or retained. Chest, abdominal, and pelvic muscles are used to pass them. Long delay of defecation causes constipation and hardened feces. See also diarrhea, incontinence.

these are the normal peristaltic movements of your gut helping to propel the food towards small intestine for absorption and then further the unabsorbed food to the end(anus) via the large intestine.
