Great answers so far... I had no idea about the "uncleaness" of the water (is turning water to wine like purifying it? or how does that fit?).

Calling the disiples his buddies was an attempt at humor.

Drinking "wine all the time" was more refering to the fact that there are many references to wine in the bible, rather than implying that they're drunks.

having alchoholic beverages isn't bad. but having it fill you, that's the bad thing thing. christians are not advised to it due to our human nature having things that is too much for us. it is advised in the Ephesians to "..be filled of the Holy Spirit instead of wine." Timothy was a disciple of Paul yet Paul advised Him to take a LITLLE wine to improve his health. 'drinking" isn't prohibited in christianity, it is BEING DRUNK that is being abominated.

that doesn't make sense. You mean "if Jesus and his buddies had wine all the time, then why do Christians frown upon the consumption of alcohol?"

Well back then people drank because it made them feel enlightened, and closer to God. It was something very common, and generally no big deal.

Nowadays people drink to ease their fears, and feel good. They not only drink, but they drive cars - something Jesus didn't have. So many tragedies have happened because of alcohol. These tragedies were not possible back in Jesus's day. Christians nowadays simply cannot drink like they used to, or else they would be looked at in a negative way. Our society associates drunkenness with irresponsibility.

Not all Christians are against alcohol. When Jesus was on the earth, wine was common becasue of the impure water.
You know how on a bottle of beer or wine it says the % of alcohol-- well the % of their wine was much less than ours. The bible talks about not becoming drunks. It never says not to drink.

Those who are anti drinking live in a world of legalism. A place I don't want to go.

At the wedding feast where Jesus turned water into wine, it is said

"most people serve the good wine first and save the ordinary for later after the guests have drunk alot. But you (jesus) have saved the best wine for last"

The Holy spirit is referred to as "the new wine" and I have been HAMMERED drunk off it. Check out Rodney Howard Brown footage if you wanna see that.

We are to drink the spiritual wine, the Holy Spirit. The old wine is that of the world....just wine. You can still have it but when theres something better, why bother?

Just my viewpoint, thanks for listening!

i dont think we Christians frown on alcohol. in a roman catholic eucharistic celebration the priest drinks a special wine every the period that he has to. And Jesus supposedly turned water into wine in a wedding. maybe a sect of Christianity frowns on wine. I think its some part of a protestant sect or something.

Baptists frown on alcohol consumption. Most Christians know a little isnt bad, but being drunk is a sin. The Bible never condemns drinking alcohol, only drunkeness.

We didn't drink wine all the time, just during dinner and in moderation.

And not all Christians frown upon consumption. There are those who choose not to drink and those who believe it is evil and no one should drink. Those are the people you should look out for becuase one of these days they are actually going to belive that everyone is out to get them and end up killing people.

Like wine, take religion in moderation too.

Wine was safer to drink than water back then.

I'm an Atheist, but if you are really interested: The bible says that it is not bad to drink alcohol. However it does say not to be a "drunkard" or a glutton.
