it seems to me they could be used the same way as river dams are.

There have been proposals and designs for wave-generated electricity. It is not the same as dams and is more difficult because of the variability of the wave motion. I think the reason it hasn't been done is that the mechanisms are expensive for the amount of power that can be obtained.

i would say that at the point they would be useful might be too deep in the ocean for anything to be useful.

not mention the corrosion the machines would suffer. remember even in a damn the main parts that make and hold the current aren't touched by water. placing that type of hardware in the water just wouldnt work from that approach.

now i do see the possibility of having a wind-power-like machine using ocean currents but as i said before it would have to be out very far in the ocean. i could see it happening if and when they decide to build cities under water. but not for use as power on the land.

then you have to factor in all the wildlife that may get caught up in it as well as the effects such structures would have on the environment. and the cost of it!

i dont think there's any one definitive answer but it seems like a good idea that deserves more real research and not just my thoughts on the issue.

There is. Currently in Port Kembla New South Wales Australia there is an operating generator powered by wave action.

Why do no longer you industry that concept and make 1000000000 money! it extremely is a stable plan... form of like image voltaic. i assume the main venture is getting the electrical powered energy generate by utilising those "wave generators" back to important land so it extremely is saved. a great community of cables could probable be costly, and harder than coal or nuclear. keep in mind, capability agencies are like the different company...out to make moola $$$.
