There isn't a better. Both have drawbacks & advantages. The older one has to be the first to do new things, and often it doesn't go so well; is expected to help care for the younger one; tends to be "held back" if the younger one is close in age. But being older also means you don't have to follow in anyone's footsteps - whatever you decide you want to do will be your own thing, and all new; and it means nobody is going to push you to keep up with someone else; and you are smarter than your siblings so you can outwit them. Don't underestimate these advantages, when you are feeling like you have the short end of the stick.

I'm a mum and think I have put more pressure on my eldest daughter (now 11 1/2) than on the 2 younger ones. I have been more intense somehow with her than with the others (lots of reasons). But I love her dearly, so very much, and have probably the most precious memories of her baby and early childhood. There is something very special about a first baby. Your mum probably feels the same way about you.

Parenting isn't easy, and sometimes I feel anxious about how I'm doing and whether I'm providing what each child needs, at different times. Regardless of birth order or any differences in treatment related to that, you are loved, and are loveable!!

Yes I'm also the oldest in my family anf there is indeed to much responsibility and pressure. But the first born is mostly special to the parents though each sibling is loved equally. The youngest is usually the most pampered one. I wish I was the youngest in my family.

Personally, I LOVE being the oldest. I practically raised 2 of my siblings (they even moved in with me after I got married). I am the one they come to for advice, and I am their role model. When I was younger, I didn't always love it, but the older I get, the more I do. I am 23 and have 4 siblings. Two sisters 16 & 7, and two brothers 19 & 16.

Both have there benefits. Being the youngest u get everything and heaps of attention. Being the eldest Ur parents see u as the most mature and trust u. Id hate to be the youngest though. Ur parents baby u all through ur life. That not cool. I'm the middle child. that's the best i recon.

youngest by far, they are the babies and they get treated like one, im the oldest of 3, its pretty kickin to be the middle child too, because the parents are too afraid the kid will feel like they are forgotten because they are niether younger nor older.

Sometimes it depends on your parents - I am the youngest, but being that my older sister wasn't as independant and such as me I was the one who more was expected of.
