i don't think it matters if people think that it is "cool" to have a tattoo. if you want a tattoo then you should have one. i'm a 25 year old with a large tattoo on my foot and i am working on a full back piece. and i'm getting another tattoo on my other foot in a few weeks. i have never heard about not being able to get an epidural because of a tattoo. what would be the reason for that?
i went to the mayo clinic website and found this answer:
No, it isn't true. Most pregnant women who have lower back tattoos can receive epidurals. The exception would be if the tattoo covers a large area and is still "fresh" — meaning the involved skin is still healing. Actually, very few studies have looked at the risks of epidurals in women with lower back tattoos. But there is no conclusive evidence of any adverse effects, such an increased risk of an infection.
Most anesthesiologists will give an epidural block to a woman with a lower back tattoo. However, they may try to avoid placing the needle through the tattoo to avoid a small scar that may disfigure the tattoo. If possible, the anesthesiologist will choose nontattooed skin through which to insert the needle.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your ability to get an epidural due to a back tattoo, consult your doctor.

Anyone can get a tattoo, even girls, i think that it is sexy if a girls has a tattoo. There a certain types of medications that you cant drink when u are pregnant and others u can drink, the tattoo has nothing to do with not taking pain killers.

If a girl wants a tattoo and gets one, then it's cool. My wife is mid-way through tattoo number ten and they're wonderful, she gets a lot of positive feedback from a variety of people, from elderly folks who you'd never think would appreciate ink to small children who are fascinated by the pictures and patterns. As long as you get something that you're completely into and will never feel differently about (ie something that symbolizes a significant moment in your life maybe?), they're wonderful.
As for the one on the lower back, this isn't true. My sister's got three on her back (the lowest one covers from hip to hip) and had painkillers (and eventually a c-section) four months ago. It's fine.
Hope you find something you like, enjoy the ink!

I think some tattoos looks really cool but gosh others are just plain gross and far over done. Personally I am not for tattoos, I believe my body should remain the way god made it with no extra drawings or painting. If you like it though, think about it thoroughly before doing because it cost far more to remove than put on.

They're all right, but it's kind of like buying an art print you like real well, then after a while you don't like it anymore. Tattoos are all the rage right now, but fads come and go. I know a lot of people who wished they had never gotten one, and they're real expensive to get taken off, so I'd never get one. I don't know about the pain killers?

I love tattoos and I plan to get many many more. And if a girl wants a tattoo and is happy with what she got, then its cool if she gets them.
That is not true. Tattoos have nothing to do with it.

Tattoos have nothing to do with the use of an epidural.

Its cool if you're focused on carrying around a piece of art with you for life. Don't just do it coz it's cool. The design and place to be done is something you must really sit and think about before going ahead.

i think you should spend some time thinking about a tattoo and not get something trendy -- everyone has got to be sick of their tribal tattoos and flames by now.
get something that means something to you -- not just something that everyone else has.
i used to think tattoos were hot -- now im kind of indifferent to them because i have seen so many bad ones.
people make up all kinds of stories to keep people from doing things they think they shouldn't do -- why would they not give you pain meds? thats silly. kick whoever said that in the teeth for me.
