where is pin 1?

I have a priority incoder in a sop16 but cant figure out which side is the top cause there is no notch.

there is no marking on it except for the part number

look for a small dot (pin 1), or sometimes one side is beveled, and the pin to the left, on the beveled side is pin 1.

There should be some distinguishing feature which identifies pin 1, but without seeing the device I can't suppose what it is. Examine it closely to look for any asymmetry.
