My best friend is going through this now, I dont know how to help her, she has lost two jobs because of this and is having trouble with relationships...I tried to track the panic attacks..the only thing that I can think of is she lost 80 lbs...then started having panic/anxiety attacks...do you think the weight loss could be a factor?

Yeah i have gotten panic attacks before they are just weird because out of no where you get them. She should go see a therapist even though she dont want to but that will help a lot trust me. Maybe there is something in her that she needs to let out or something there has to be something causing those attacks.

Yes, I had a series of panic attacks. My husband and I separated for a while. Then I switched jobs. I had been working as a cashier, and I started working with mentally handicapped people. That was rough, and I found out I could not handle that type of environment. They tried to call me in to work one day, and I called my husband. I was shaking, crying, and a total wreck. I told him that I had a favor to ask him, but I didn't want him to do it, and that was to watch my daughter. Long story made somewhat short, my husband and my roommate told me to quit my job. I did shortly after, and the anxiety attacks ended. Your friend obviously has something bothering her. If she figures out what it is, they will probably go away. I don't think there's a chemical imbalance or anything like that since you say she's under a doctor's care and it is not helping. Also, she may be a hypochondriac. If she always thinks she's sick and has all side-effects of meds, etc. Maybe you could call her family or someone who can talk to her doctor to voice your concerns. Good luck to you and your friend. God bless you both.
By the way, the best thing to do for your friend is to continue to be there. Support is needed desperately.

Sorry to hear of the hard times your friend is going through. It sounds like she is having both physical and mental effects from stress and anxiety. I have experienced panic attacks myself, and have lost relationships and opportunities as a result of not getting help for myself. If she is underweight, she may not be able to think as clearly as she might be lacking vital nutrients.
She is lucky to have a friend like you that cares about her. Maybe you can suggest to her that she see a doctor, therapist, or psychiatrist. Sometimes medicine can help with anxiety attacks, it did for me. But it does sound like she needs more than just medicine, hope all goes well.

Hello, I have actually had panic attacks before. they started around a year ago, when I had a very stressful teacher and was under a lot of stress and pressure. My mom took me to talk to someone, and after I had been going to therapy for a few months, my panic atacks started discipating. I have been panic attack free for a few months.

yes. i was affected for about a year. it's a hard place to be. i knew logically what i was feeling wasn't right, but the anxious feelings overtook me. it took medicine as well as prayer and tons of support to break through it. my poor husband thought i had lost it. did your friend take weight loss pills to lose the weight? it happened to me after losing weight with ephedra products. it's a scarry place to be and she needs lots of support. what helped me through it is knowing that the panic attacks last about 20mins. this allowed me to realize that there was an end in sight, even if only temporary. i don't take meds anymore and rarely have anxiety attacks anymore. there is hope. at least now i know what it is and can counter it with knowledge. tell her not to give up. i survived she will too.

Yes - I had a few earlier this year. I tried a combination of things like swimming & having a dry sauna coz I enjoy them & a spa. I also went for massages. I then tried acupuncture. I also tried some yoga exercises and concertrated on deep breathing which is probably most important. I also read a book on panic attacks. I've had one or two since but have them under quick control coz now I know what they are & now they ain't a problem.
My advice is to get your friend to do whatever it is she enjoys, try alternative therapies such as acupunture, massage etc and get off medication.
I know of a guy who is now on lifetime medication & got worse coz he refused to do anything about his attacks earlier as I have done.
Good luck!!!!

Not a factor a symptom. I have panic disorder. when going through a bad spell I lose about 2 pounds a day. Meds do help. Presently I am disabled by agoraphobia with panic disorder. Luckily mine came on close enough to my retirement time that I as only broke for about a year.
The good news is it has been known to go away as suddenly as it came on. No one knows why. If your friend wants to contact someone who has and is going through it contact me and I'll send you my email address.

Anxiety attacks are sudden surges of overwhelming fear that that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. It is far more intense than having anxiety or the feeling of being 'stressed out' that most people experience. One out of every 75 people worldwide will experience a panic attack at one time in their lives.

She needs to discuss this with a mental health professional or her doctor and get medication for it. If she is having an attack right now then offer to take her to urgent care to get some medication to help ease it. Encourage her to get this checked out and taken care of though once she is over her current attack.
