Any kind of children's books that they can read with their parents.

When I was 3...MANY, MANY moons ago, I LOVED Shel Silverstien books, like "Where The Sidewalk Ends", "A Light In The Attic" and (one that is STILL a personal favorite) "The Giving Tree".

Encouraging and fostering a love of reading is a gift that will last a lifetime. Plus, it is a great way for parents and their children to spend some quality time together.

Sure beats getting them movies or video games so they just sit on their rear in front of the idiot box....

A ball for kicking or throwing outdoors
Thomas the Tank Engine Wooden Railway stuff

Might help if you give a price range.

I suggest the Vsmile game system for toddlers. We bought it for my son last year (will be 3 in 17 days). He loves it. He has learned so much, and even has better fine motor skills. I think the game system is about 40-60 and comes with one game. Each additional game is about 20 dollars. Unlike Leapfrog, you dont have to change game systems every year. All games for up to 2nd grade can be used in the same system.

I am going to get my son a V-Smile and a soccer net/ ball because he loves video games and sports. Observe him and see what he is really interested in so you can get him something that he will really play with. I made the mistake last year with my son and bought him things that I wanted him to have and he took no interest in them at all so we were toy shopping after Christmas.

games that he can play my 4 year old loves candy land and it is for 3 and up. so that would be a good idea bc he/she can learn colors as they play and counting skills and they are able to play with ease because there is no reading they have to do.

I think this web site has some great ideas. I buy learning and use your imagination toys. My 3 year old loves helping me with cleaning & cooking so I bought her a vacuum, cooking items, stroller with baby, and things of that nature. At this age I think they are easy to please.
