Where was he buried? Where is his tomb right now?

2006-11-20 17:21:16 · 19 answers · asked by The Riddler 3 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Why would people not know where the tomb is? Jesus was such an influential figure that there must've been hundreds of people living near the tomb since the day he died.

Why would someone open jesus' tomb? Why would someone open anyone's tomb. why wasn't it buried?

He was buried in a tomb in the Garden near where He was crucified; a tomb in which no one had ever been laid; a tomb that belonged to Joseph of Arimethia.

The tomb either was where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is now OR in the "Garden Tomb" where Gen. Gordon had discovered it.

Where is His tomb right now?...the same place that it was EXCEPT that His body is not in it. Don't you remember having heard that the Third Day He Rose from the Grave. Jesus is He Who was dead but now is alive for evermore and has the keys of death and hades. He rose again with His own body and all things the appertain to our salvation. After 40 days, He ascended to Heaven; the disciples stood, watching as He ascended. They saw Him go literally, physically, visibly. And a cloud received Him out of their sight. Then two (angels) stood beside them and said unto them 'Ye men of Galilee, why stand you gazing up into Heaven ... this same Jesus shall come in like manner as you saw Him to into Heaven. Literally, physically, visible, and with the cloud(s) of heaven. And in that day His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives and an earthquake shall split the Mount in two. That is one way we can know that is is Jesus, the Messiah, and not any supermarket tabloid phoney.

It was taken to a tomb. After the body was prepared the tomb was sealed and guarded by a legion of Roman Soldiers. In the morning of the third day the stone was rolled back and the tomb was empty, all this while still being guarded.

After Jesus died his body was laid in a borrowed tomb, a very large stone was placed in front of the tomb, and was guarded 24/3, because on the third day, the STONE was ROLLED away, Jesus walked out of the tomb and was witnessed for the next 40 days by over 500 people. Then Jesus ascended into Heaven, body and all, He is right now at the right hand of God the Father, and when we die, if our names are found in the Lambs Book of Life, Jesus will show the father that there are no sins attributed to our name, and God will say "Well done my good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your Lord. On the other hand, if your name is not found in the Book of Life Jesus will look at it and weep, then show it to God, who will say, "Depart from me I never knew you" and your soul will be taken to a place called Hell for all eternity.

"And so they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been laid. Therefore on account of the Jewish day of preparation, because the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there (John 19:40-42) "And the angel answered and said to the women,"Do not be afraid; for I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He was lying" "(Matthew 28:5,6)

The Bible doesn't say exactly where the tomb is or what happened to Jesus' body. The reason being that people being as they are would make the site something holy and make pilgrimages to it to worship which is a form of idolatry and offensive to God, as for his body, I would imagine that God did something with his body just as He did with Moses' body, there was even a dispute over Moses' body between Satan and Michael the Archangel. People would have done the same thing with Jesus' body as they do with other items they claim are connected with Jesus, they would turn it into some form of idolatry.

Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, two very well known Jewish religious leaders who believed in Jesus' teachings, interred his body in a "tomb carved in the rock, in which no man had yet lain." Luke 23:53.

Jesus' body lay in this anonymous tomb for three days until he was resurrected by God. ( Luke chapter 24.)

After appearing in his resurrected body to his disciples, Jesus "led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them. As he was blessing them he was parted from them and began to be borne up to heaven." Luke 24:50, 51.

Since a physical body can not enter into the heavens, Jesus was transformed into a spirit creature to enter back into heaven. It is unknown what exactly God did with his body, since it is not explained in the Bible.

The location of Jesus' temporary tomb is also unknown, but it is reasonable to assume that it was in or on the outskirts of Jerusalem, close to where Jesus was put to death. The site most likely no longer exists since the Roman empire destroyed the city years later.

Go find a Catholic or an Episcopalian. They can tell you:

"On the third day he rose again, in accordance to the scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. And his kingdom will have no end".

That's the belief. Whether or not you want to believe that is your choice. As the prayer says, "He" will judge the living....not me. I don't push my belief system on you. Have a good night.

Biblehelp & danni_d21 are very good answers,

I would only add that during the 40 days prior to going to heaven, as a spirit (1 Cor 15:45)
Jesus was reconigized not by this physical looks, but by what he said.
