Borderline Personality Disorder
One of the most controversial diagnoses in the world of psychology today is borderline personality disorder. The borderline personality concept was initially conceived to define a set of symptoms which met no other standard diagnosis. Borderline personality disorder is also called borderline syndrome quite frequently.

One school of thought on borderline disorder is that it is actually one type of manifestation of post-traumatic stress disorder. Other professionals believe that borderline personality is so misunderstood that the diagnosis can be almost meaningless. Yet other psychologists believe that borderline syndrome is the result of an inborn biological tendency to react to low levels of stress much more intensely than other people.

Part of the process of diagnosing borderline personality is to determine that no psychosis is present. Another part of the diagnostic process of borderline syndrome or borderline disorder is to identify the presence of impaired ego integration. Borderline disorder diagnosis looks for low tolerance of anxiety and inability to control impulses. The person with borderline personality frequently is unable to enjoy work or hobbies in any meaningful way.

At first glance, many people believe that borderline disorder is simply a form of neurosis. Some of this is because people who have borderline disorder often see things as all good or all bad, with no grey areas. Persons with borderline syndrome have difficulty with reading the actions of other people who interact with them and often had difficulty forming relationships as a result.

The DSM-IV, the guidebook to diagnosis criteria for borderline personality and all other disorders, provides nine criteria. A personal with at least five of these symptoms present can be diagnosed as having borderline disorder. Borderline syndrome symptoms include self-destructive actions such as mutilation, suicidal threats or actions which occur more than one time. The presence of two potentially self-damaging impulse behaviors such as alcohol or drug abuse, compulsive spending, gambling, shoplifting, reckless behavior, compulsive sexual activity, or eating disorders compose another criteria. Disturbance with identify exhibited in at least two areas such as sexual orientation, career choice or goals, friendships, values or self-image, religious beliefs, etc. compose another criteria. People with borderline personality disorder experience feelings of chronic boredom or express feelings of emptiness. Their relationships tend to be chaotic, intense and unstable. The person may experience real or imagined abandonment and perform frantic efforts to prevent this abandonment. These people also experience paranoia when under stress.

As a matter of fact, yes I do. I work with a compulsive liar...The things he says about himself are just amazing. He is 58 years old and he has a hard time moving but he says that he is a master kongfu...He used to be a roc climber too and one time he broke 4 fingers on the left hand at 800 feet. He says that he did 3 years in mechanical engineering...So what is he doing here on this ferry being a deckhand? He took courses in photography he said when he saw my camera. Also, he used to be a drag car racer. Wow. And to top it off, he never wash or change his clothes...He stinks. He even bragged to me that he doesn't wear underwear's...How lovely. That's what I call personality disorder.

get a 2nd opinion. character problems are no longer clinically determined till after the age of 18 because of the fact till then their character continues to be forming and issue to alter... a character sickness is a pervasive development of perceiving and reacting to the worldwide this is enduring and long term..... i think of it rather is the hot capture all nonetheless for some medical doctors. became it a psychiatrist who clinically determined her? She could have "rising" BPD, or she could have Oppositional defiance sickness, or Bipolar... yet you're good, technically, in accordance to the diagnostic standards, she would have the capacity to no longer have Borderline. surely get a 2nd opinion.... if she is Bipolar then the treatment is extremely diverse.

I sometimes do not even know who I am. I think at my age I've just played so many roles, that I forget who I am. It is a little scary, Sometimes I think I know just to find out I don't. As far as these roles becoming confusing, well that is another story. Sometimes I get around people from the past for instance an before I know it I am saying and doing things that are not me, I've caught myself at this.

In simple terms, they are highly unpredictable, emotional, overly dramatic, prone to fears of abandonment and sometimes violent in their outbursts.
Psychotherapy and psychopharmacology has little to offer. Its a very difficult condition to live with. i have a good friend who dated a BP gilr for a year or so... longest year of my life, I can't imagine what it was like for him!

I don't know anybody who has it, but that is the one where people cut themselves. They're not suicidal, they'll make shallow cuts all over themselves.
