I heard something about how milds have thicker smoke, therefore the smoke photgraphs better and looks more "graceful", if you will. Is this true?

I don't know about cigarettes, but I would think that a unfiltered one - like a Pall-Mall would be the best.

I think of the old, early, available light photos, and I'm sure they didn't have "milds" then...

I thought I had condensation on my lens the other day.

It turned out, I'd exhaled a puff off of a Wolf Bros Rum Crooks cigar just before I shot...

Best dam smoke I've EVER scene.

If it weren't deer season, I'd find my USB cable and upload that somewhere...

You'll have to experiment. Lighting the smoke will do more for it.
I'd have a key spot going through it and back-lighting it slightly.

Depending on how much smoke you want and where, the fog machines that movie studios and bands use heat up mineral oil. and put out a lot for a loong time.
Radio Shack had a model on clearance about 4 years ago for $30. I wish I'd have bought that.

Might be able to borrow one from a entertainment company (a DJ- like place) during the week fairly cheaply.

the best cigarettes for making thick smoke that will show up in photographs are pall mall no filters. I knew an old man who smokes them and they pump out loads of dense smoke. should be pretty photogenic

Milds are bigger in general so there is more smoke to begin with. Also it doesn't have a filter like ciggarettes do. anything without a filter will do fine.

Most of the cigarettes used for photography are disguised punk sticks.
