I've never followed Peter D'Adamo's protocol, although I might try some of his advice if I can ever find a copy of his book to borrow. I'm not interested in dieting, because I'm already slim and lean, but I'd be interested if his theories helped me feel better overall, of if they might help with some of my chronic disorders (asthma, acid reflux, ADHD, rosacea).
However, I would NOT follow 100% of he says for my blood type, which is O positive. I'd only follow what is applicable to me. For example, I've heard that folks with my blood type should, according to D'Adamo, eat red meat 3 to 4 times a week. Well, that's OUT for me! I'm 34 and already have elevated cholesterol, due to a genetic propensity for this from my mom's side of the family. I am very slim, active, and for the most part eat very well-balanced, healthy meals, yet I STILL have the beginnings of a cholesterol problem.
So I sure as heck am not going to start eating a bunch of red meat!! It so happens I don't really even like most red meats (except hamburger), and I hate steak. I mainly eat white meat chicken, white meat turkey, and fish. But even if I loved red meat, I would still limit my consumption of it, in the hopes of keep my cholesterol numbers from becoming high enough to warrant medication like Lipitor. :(
I guess my ramblings only answered the first part of your question ("Has anyone tried eating according to their blood type?"), but not the second part, about whether it helped or hindered them. :) But hopefully you found this interesting anyway.

Um, those answers all seem like automatically generated advertising. Don't listen to them, there is no magic ingredient, or else there wouldn't be overweight people any more. There is no evidence for a blood type diet - that's why you can't find any consistent info. Unfortunately it's just good old fashioned good diet AND exercise. You have to do both. The trick is to not compensate when you do them. Lots of people do some extra exercise, then decide that they earned a treat and eat a block of chocolate because the run they did makes it ok. Then when the actually put on weight, they wonder why. Speak to your doctor if you want more detailed advice! =o)

Your blood type is simply based on what proteins are on the outside of your red blood cells. If you get a transfusion of blood of a different blood type, your immune system will attack the foreign cells, a reaction which could kill you. This is why blood types are important : for blood transfusions, and probably for other organ donations. This is of course a generalization, and if you are interested you should look up blood types on wikipedia.
This whole business of blood types has absolutely nothing to do with your diet. Any blood cells that you digest will be broken down so much that the proteins are broken into amino acids, which your immune system will not attack because it is a basic type of food. If you want to be healthier and lose weight, eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and exercise often.
