I've noticed with my two dogs that they are both rather protective of their tails. They do not like their tails to be touched. If you touch it, they will try and tuck it between their legs and move so you can't touch it. Is this common among dogs? Cats normally seem to use their tails to interact with people... Sort of taunting you with them for attention... It also seems like cats have more conscious control over their tales then dogs do. Have other people noticed this and is it true?

Dogs tuck their tails under their bodies as a sign of submission. It stems from their relationship to the wolf. Wolf packs have a pecking order and the wolves all submit to the alpha male and female. They do this with body language such as tucking the tail and lying on the ground with the belly exposed.

I've never noticed this. The tail is full of nerves though. I always stroke down it pulling it slightly when giving a massage. I've never had a dog become upset about it.

Yeah, it's tru. Because tails are apart of the dog, it's like they don't want anyone to hurt them. Dogs express themselves thru their tails, that's how we know whether thay are happy.

a dogs tail is one of the most sensitive parts of its body so that might be why but my dog lets me touch her tail. they could hav both injured their tails somehow.

My little dog is very protective of his tale. If you mess with it he will warn you not to by putting your hand in his mouth. he won't bite though. He jus doesn't like it touched.
