Dance partner asked me about her dress, if I like it, if I'd mind if she dresses up more to dance.
Also she asked me if I think her hair is better tied up in a pony tail or simply let loose.
But I'm not really the person you'd ask if you want to know about fashion or latest trends.
Why ask me?
What should I say next time she ask me something like that?

Darn ....i think I blew it.
I said I don't mind.
She answered "You are not a great help are you".
Yes I do like her, we are competition dance partners.

Well she's not asking about fashion or trends. She's asking of what YOU think about it.
Next time she asks you that tell her what you really think (be courteous of course).

She doesn't want to want to know about fashion or the latest trends; she wants to know what you think of the way she looks. For some unknown reason, your opinion is important to her. Tell her how you prefer her hair and what you think she looks the best in. It's not so difficult and it'll be good practice for you.

If u like her its an automatic "you look great" if not dont mind hesitating to give your answer or just say that ur not all to gd with saying how ppl look because you dont think you know much about style

She asked you because she really wants to know if you like her. And then she wants to know what you like. Because she likes you. If you aren't interested in her like that then just say 'yes' and 'loose' but don't give very much detail and don't give the sly smile guys give when they are flirting.

i personally hate when girls ask guys about trivial things like that and especially if they get mad at the answer they get. anyways, tell her you dont mind if she dresses up and her hair is better in a ponytail so it doesnt get in the way. its just better for everyone if you answer like that

shes asking you to know your opinion about her clothes and hair and etc ,simply she wants to know whether she looks pretty in ur eyes.Try to give her some compliments but even you can tell her how she looks prettier without hurting her feelings ofcourse.
