My fiance had mono in '04, and I've heard that it's a one-time sickness, like the chicken pox. I know that if you have the chicken pox once, there is a very, very slim and rare chance that you will get it again--is mono like that too?
He is feeling very worn down and is describing some of the beginning symptoms, but the beginning symptoms of mono are the same as the flu, and we're hoping it's only the flu--and not just because our wedding is in a little over two weeks. We don't want him to have to go through it again, because he may have to have his appendix removed this time.

"Mono, also known as mononucleosis, is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Once someone has been infected, the virus stays in the body for the rest of that person's life and may even reappear in the saliva from time to time. However, the person usually won't get mono symptoms (like being tired all the time, a sore throat, fever, and loss of appetite) again — at least not from mono."

Hi there! It can be now not essentially the most pleasent factor... You are not able to do anything however essentially sleep, you get three-4 fevers a day- your entire physique ordinarily aches and your head is all stuffy. They are saying that you have kanker soares in every single place your throat thats why it hurts so unhealthy whilst you swallow..It took as much as 2 months to do away with absolutely.. The final week I broke out in hives and it was no longer a fun time! If you want to know if mono is what you've because your now not feeling well, i would suggest goin to the doct and requestin a blood scan...That's the great option to discover for sure...Excellent success!

Once you contract Mono, one makes antibodies against it, this is how it is detected as one having had Mono. Mono like Chicken Pox is one of the nine Herpes viruses. There is a Herpes zoster vaccine, but no cure for other types of Herpes, though they are working on it and other countries have started administering a possible cure for people who already have HSV I and II to prevent others from getting these from people already infected with HSV I and II, but not the United States for it is still being tested as being ok to administer. Anyways, I have had Mono. I was extremely tired and fell into a wall one time while walking for I fell asleep. It can make you quite depressed too. After I got Mono, I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Then I developed Lupus. This was about six years after contracting Mono. Since I've had Lupus I experience the symptoms of Mono everyday from sore throat, fatigue, to swollen glands. 30% of people who get Mono will have Lupus and 99% of those with Lupus have gotten Mono. Soooo, I don't know if it will reoccur, but I know since I got Lupus it is the same symptoms. Otherwise I just had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Mono is not curable, but I wouldn't worry too much about it coming back for it's much like Chicken Pox unless you have an auto-immune condition like me. Hopefully, one day, there will something to prevent the symptoms one gets once they contract Mono. I am sure they will with all the advances in medicine.

I'm pretty sure that you can contract Mono again, espcially in younger years (mid teens through mid 20's). I'm not a doctor, but I know a fantastic website on anything medical. The link is below and fully descripes mono and symptoms, etc.
Hope he gets better super fast :(

could be something more than mono-which sometimes is mistaken for hepatitis c. *they reside in the same family of viruses
my son has "chronic mono" brought on by the chicken pox vaccine that was given to him, yet he had already had the chicken pox, thus overloading his system.
mono can become chronic, it doesn't have to be a one time thing.
right now, my son is in a bad phase. other times he is okay and sometimes he just needs to stay home from school and sleep.
i would have the doc run an HCV antibody test regardless if his alt and ast levels appear normal...
